THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD
Call to Worship (from Psalm 98)

We will sing a new song to our God.
God’s way is the way of loyal and constant love.
The whole created world will sing for joy.
Trumpet and saxophone will praise God,
even the rivers and the hills will applaud,
for God’s way will guide the nations.
In past time, in present time, and when time fades away,
we will rely on the Holy One,
for God shows us justice and fairness.
There is no end to God’s love-filled giving.

*Hymn: MV 1 Let Us Build a House v 1,2 4, 5

Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live,
a place where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive.
Built of hopes and dreams and visions; rock of faith and vault of grace;
here the love of all shall end divisions:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where prophets speak, and words are strong and true,
where all God’s children dare to seek to dream God’s reign anew.
Here the cross shall stand as witness and as symbol of God’s grace;
here as one we claim the faith of Jesus:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where hands will reach beyond the wood and stone
to heal and strengthen serve and teach, and live the Word they’ve known.
Here the outcast and the stranger bear the image of God’s face;
let us bring an end to fear and danger:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where all are named, their songs and visions heard
and loved and treasured, taught and claimed as words within the Word.
Built of tears and cries and laughter, prayers of faith and songs of grace;
let this house proclaim from floor to rafter:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Words and music: Marty Haugen.

Prayer of the Day

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutłilala's! Listen deeply as Scripture is proclaimed.
Acts of the Apostles: Acts 10: 44-48
Psalm 98: VU 818

Refrain 2: All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God.
Sing to God a new song,
for God has done marvellous things.
Your right hand and your holy arm have brought victory.
You have made known your salvation, and revealed before the nations your saving power.
You have remembered your steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel;
all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
R 2: All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God.

Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth;
break into joyous praise, sing psalms.
Sing psalms to God with the harp,
with the harp and melodious voice.
With trumpets, and the sound of the horn
make a joyful noise before our sovereign God.
R 2: All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God.

Let the sea roar, and all that fills it,
the world, and its inhabitants.
Let the rivers clap their hands,
the hills sing together for joy before God.
You come to judge the earth, O God,
to judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.
R 2: All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God.

Epistle 1 John 5: 1-6

*Hymn: VU 574 Come Let Us Sing of a Wonderful Love

Come let us sing of a wonderful love,
tender and true, tender and true,
out of the heart of the Father above,
streaming to me and to you:
wonderful love, wonderful love
dwells in the heart of the Father above.

Jesus, the Saviour, this gospel to tell,
joyfully came, joyfully came,
came with the helpless and hopeless to dwell,
sharing their sorrow and shame,
seeking the lost, seeking the lost,
saving, redeeming at measureless cost.

Jesus is seeking the wanderers yet;
why do they roam? why do they roam?
Love only waits to forgive and forget;
home, weary wanderers, home!
Wonderful love, wonderful love
dwells in the heart of the Father above.

Come to my heart, O thou wonderful love!
Come and abide, come and abide,
lifting my life till it rises above
envy and falsehood and pride:
seeking to be, seeking to be
lowly and humble, a learner of thee.

*Gospel: John 15: 9-17
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church.
Thanks be to God.

Sermon Reflection

Prayers of the People
Minute for Mission/ PWRDF
One: Love one another:
People: just as I love you.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

The Peace
The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.

*Hymn: Every Morning is Easter Morning

Ev'ry morning is Easter morning from now on!
Ev'ry day's resurrection day, the past is over and gone!

Goodbye guilt, goodbye fear, good riddance!
Hello Lord, Hello sun!
I am one of the Easter People!
My new life has begun!

Ev'ry morning is Easter morning from now on!
Ev'ry day's resurrection day, the past is over and gone!

Daily news is so bad it seems the
Good News seldom gets heard.
Get it straight from the Easter People:
God's in charge! Spread the word!

Ev'ry morning is Easter morning from now on!
Ev'ry day's resurrection day, the past is over and gone!

Yesterday I was bored and lonely;
but today look and see!
I belong to the Easter People!
Life's exciting to me!

Ev'ry morning is Easter morning from now on!
Ev'ry day's resurrection day, the past is over and gone!
Ev'ry morning is Easter morning,
ev'ry morning is Easter morning,
ev'ry morning is Easter morning,
from …now…on!

Prayer over the Gifts
We put no boundaries on our giving.
We give to help those in our church who are sick and troubled, but we don’t stop there.
We put no boundaries on our giving.
We give to support our neighbourhood but we don’t stop there!
We put no boundaries on our giving.
We give to encourage mission and aid projects for people far away, but we don’t stop there.
We give to provide a solid foundation for those whom Jesus Christ would have sustained.
We put no boundaries on our giving.
Amen.

Commissioning
Go from here committed to love one another as God loves us.
We will love generously. We will love carefully. We will love the unlovely. We will love the vulnerable. We will love the despised. We will love when we receive love in return. We will love when our love is rejected. We will love our family and friends, and we will offer love to the stranger in our midst.
And we will love knowing that nothing- nothing- will separate us from God’s love as we know it in Jesus.
Go in peace. Go with love.

*Hymn: Go Now in Peace

Go now in peace. Never be afraid.
God will go with you each hour of every day.
Go now in faith, steadfast, strong and true.
Know He will guide you in all you do.
Go now in love, and show you believe.
Reach out to others so all the world can see.
God will be there watching from above.
Go now in peace, in faith, and in love.
Amen, amen, amen.
