Call to Worship

From the shores of our lives,
Jesus calls us into the celebration of worship.
Let us worship our God.
From the edge of our worries and concerns,
Jesus calls us into hope.
Let us claim the hope in Christ Jesus.

From the shallow places in our hearts,
Jesus calls us into the depths of his love.
Let us celebrate the gift of his love.

From the breaking waves of sadness in our lives,
Jesus calls us into joy.
Let us renew our spirits in his joy.

From the rising tides of our conflicts,
Jesus calls us onto the shores of peace.
Let us rest in his peace.

Let us celebrate the love of God
and receive the blessings of Christ.
Let us worship God!
Amen!

Collect

Hymn: MV 36 Glory to God!

Glory to God, glory to God, glory in the highest!
Glory to God, glory to God, glory in the highest!
To God be glory forever!
To God be glory forever!
Alleluia, amen! Alleluia, amen!
Alleluia, amen! Alleluia, amen!
Alleluia, amen! Alleluia, amen!
Alleluia, amen! Alleluia, amen!

Words: traditional liturgical text; Music: traditional melody, Peru.

Prayer of Confession
We come before you, God, in search of courage.
We can grow suspicious of our own movements and actions. We notice ways we avoid confrontation and speak differently before those we fear or do not understand. Remove from our senses, our minds, and our hearts, the things that keep us from loving, from trusting and from getting to know those who we judge as different. Re-create us, O God, and fashion us to be free, in all times and places, to live as you want us to live. Amen.

Words of Affirmation
We receive the gracious love of God.
We are made whole in God’s presence.
We welcome all into God’s community of love.
Amen.

Readings

Hutłilala's! Listen deeply as scripture is read and the word proclaimed.

Acts of the Apostles: Acts 9: 1-6

Psalm 30 VU 757

Refrain: Though tears flow for a night, the morning brings new joy.
I will extol you, O God, for you have lifted me up;
you have not let my enemies triumph over me.
O God, my God, I cried to you for help, and you restored my health.
You brought me back from the dead, you saved my life as I was going down to the Grave.
Let all your servants sing praises to you and give thanks to your holy name.
Your anger is but for a moment, but your kindness is life eternal.
R: Though tears flow for a night, the morning brings new joy.

In my prosperity I said,
“I shall never be shaken; your favour, O God, has made me as firm as any strong mountain.”
You turned your face away from me, and I was greatly dismayed. I called to you; I made my appeal:
“What profit is there in my death, in my going down to the Grave?
Will the dust give you praise? Will it proclaim your faithfulness?
Hear, O God, and be gracious to me; O God, be my helper.”
R: Though tears flow for a night, the morning brings new joy.

You turned my mourning into dancing;
you stripped off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
So that my heart will sing your praise without ceasing.
O God, my God, I will give thanks to you forever.
R: Though tears flow for a night, the morning brings new joy.

Refrain Music: Norman L. Warren

Hymn: MV 121 Hey Now! Singing Hallelujah!

Hey now! Singing hallelujah!
Hey now! The morning has come!
Hey now! Singing hallelujah!
The tomb was empty at the rising sun.

Jesus loved people and he made them friends.
Hey now, the tomb was empty.
He called to the children and the women and men.
Hey now, the tomb was empty.

Hey now! Singing hallelujah!
Hey now! The morning has come!
Hey now! Singing hallelujah!
The tomb was empty at the rising sun.

Jesus healed people and he helped them be well.
Hey now, the tomb was empty.
He taught about God in the stories he’d tell.
Hey now, the tomb was empty.

Hey now! Singing hallelujah!
Hey now! The morning has come!
Hey now! Singing hallelujah!
The tomb was empty at the rising sun.

Jesus loved people and they said he was a king.
Hey now, the tomb was empty.
He turned all the tables on everything.
Hey now, the tomb was empty.

Hey now! Singing hallelujah!
Hey now! The morning has come!
Hey now! Singing hallelujah!
The tomb was empty at the rising sun.

Jesus had power and they took him away.
Hey now, the tomb was empty.
They nailed him to a cross and they killed him one day.
Hey now, the tomb was empty.

Hey now! Singing hallelujah!
Hey now! The morning has come!
Hey now! Singing hallelujah!
The tomb was empty at the rising sun.

Jesus loves people and he lives again!
Hey now, the tomb was empty.
Calls us disciples and he calls us his friends.
Hey now, the tomb was empty.

Hey now! Singing hallelujah!
Hey now! The morning has come!
Hey now! Singing hallelujah!
The tomb was empty at the rising sun.

Minute for Mission/ PWRDF

May this be a place of welcome, a home to all, a community of forgiveness,a place to learn how to be together, a way of growing closer together, learning from each other, beginning to trust one another.
May we let go of any prejudice of people. May we see the variety of life in all rather than live ever more suspiciously with one another. May we believe love can transform. May we refuse to let life make us bitter with one another and grant ourselves the time to love life again.
Creator God, may we be the change that opens our community to the impossible, that accepts people can change and be renewed and that your patience and time is long enough for us to find the right time to come to believe love is stronger than hate goodness is stronger than evil life is stronger than death.
Hear us as we dedicate ourselves and our futures to you, trusting your grace-filled love, that can change everything. Amen

Peace
May the peace and love of Christ be with you always!
And also with you!

Prayer over the Gifts

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Hymn: MV 212 Sent Out in Jesus Name

Sent out in Jesus' name,
our hands are ready now
to make the earth the place
in which the kingdom comes.
(Repeat)

The angels cannot change a world of hurt and pain
into a world of love, of justice and of peace.
The task is ours to do, to set it really free.
O help us to obey, and carry out your will.

Words and music: traditional song, Cuba

Blessing

The Spirit of Christ says, “Get up and go.” Go and extend God’s circle of love, go and offer a healing touch to the world, go and celebrate Spirit’s presence in all.
Our eyes have been opened, and we are filled with new visions of the way. We will go where the Spirit of Christ leads! Amen.
Thanks be to God! Gilakas’la! Alleluia! Amen!

Threefold Amen
