THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD

Call to Worship
Come, let us worship God, who is deserving of
praise, glory, wisdom, thanksgiving, honour, power and strength.
Come, let us worship God!

Opening Prayer

Hymn: VU # 232 Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee

Joyful, joyful, we adore you,
God of glory, life and love;
hearts unfold like flowers before you,
opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness,
drive the gloom of doubt away;
giver of immortal gladness,
fill us with the light of day.

All your works with joy surround you,
earth and heaven reflect your rays,
stars and angels sing around you,
centre of unbroken praise.
Field and forest, vale and mountain,
flowery meadow, flashing sea,
chanting bird and flowing fountain,
sound their praise eternally.

You are giving and forgiving,
ever blessing, ever blest,
wellspring of the joy of living,
ocean depth of happy rest!
Source of grace and fount of blessing,
let your light upon us shine;
teach us how to love each other,
lift us to the joy divine.

Mortals, join the mighty chorus
which the morning stars began;
God's own love is reigning o'er us,
joining people hand in hand.
Ever singing, march we onward,
victors in the midst of strife;
joyful music lifts us sunward
in the triumph song of life.

Words: Henry van Dyke Music: Ludwig van Beethoven

Collect
God, you call us to rise, to live, to seek the welfare of others, and to offer words and deeds that are life-giving. Fill us with the presence of your spirit, God, and guide us as we grow as disciples.
Amen. Alleluia!

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutlilala’s! Listen deeply!
Acts of the Apostles: Acts 9: 32-43

Psalm 23: VU 749

Refrain 1: My shepherd is the Lord; nothing indeed shall I want.
God is my shepherd,
there is nothing I shall lack.
You, God, make me lie down in green pastures,
you lead me beside peaceful waters;
you revive my spirit,
you guide me in right pathways for your name’s sake.
R1: My shepherd is the Lord; nothing indeed shall I want.

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, you are with me,
your rod and your staff are my comfort.
You spread a table before me in the sight of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil; my cup is overflowing.
Surely your goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in God’s house my whole life long.
R1: My shepherd is the Lord; nothing indeed shall I want.

Refrain 1: Joseph Gelineau.

Book of Revelation: 7: 9-17

Hymn: SGP 75 My Shepherd is the Living Lord

“My shepherd is the living Lord,
nothing therefore I need;
In pastures fair, near pleasant streams
you settle me to feed.
You bring my wandering spirit back
when I forsake your ways,
And lead me for your mercy’s sake
in paths of truth and grace.

When I walk thro’ the shades of death,
your presence is my stay;
A word of your supporting breath
drives all my fears away.
Your hand, in sight of all my foes,
does still my table spread;
My cup with blessings overflows,
your oil anoints my head.

The sure provisions of my God
attend me all my days;
O may your house be mine abode,
and all my work be praise.
There would I find a settled rest,
while others come and go –
No more a stranger or a guest,
but like a child at home.”

Words: Thomas Sternhold and Isaac Watts; Music: American folk tune, harmony Erik Routley

One: The Holy Gospel of our Lord, Jesus Christ according to John
All: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ

Prayers of the People
In our Shared Ministry Church Cycles of prayer...
We pray for all in authority...

Minute for Mission / PWRDF

Scripture paints a picture ... ...In the love of God: Creator, Redeemer, and Spirit! Amen.

These we have journeyed with today. These we have prayed for today. These we have met today. A unique combination and community.
May the love we have tangled with today, the grace we have woven and the peace we have shared, reflect and belong in your reign, O God.

Receive all we have touched today, all we have given, all we have known as our giving to your realm.
These are our offerings to you forever. Amen

The Peace
The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.

Hymn: VU 541 Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost! Amen

Words: Thomas Ken; Music: Genevan Psalter

Response: VU 542 We Give You But Your Own
We give you but your own,
what e’er the gift may be;
all that we have is yours alone,
We give it gratefully.

Words: William Walsham How; Music: Johann Balthasar König; adapted William Henry Havergal.

Prayer over the Gifts

THE SACRED MEAL IS SHARED

Welcome
Good Friday is past, we celebrate on the other side of the cross, and we speak of life from death. Come now to the feast of life that takes all our past and redeems it with life. Come to the table for the host is waiting with the bread of life and the cup of salvation.

Thanksgiving Prayer
Jesus – companion and Saviour – unfolder of alleluias, bread-breaker life-giver ...
...Great God of resurrection bringing life from death light from shadows adventures from question, authenticity from lies we sing with all the angels:

(MV 203 Kingsfold Communion Set)
O holy, holy, holy, God, O God of time and space.
All earth and sea and sky above bear witness to your grace.
Hosanna in the highest heav’n, creation sings your praise.
And blessed is the One who comes and bears your name always!

May our living be our thanksgiving ...
...We remember Jesus the Christ always.

(MV 204 Kingsfold Communion Set)
Sing Christ has died and Christ is risen, Christ will come again!
Sing Christ has died and Christ is risen, Christ will come again!

Prayer of consecration
Hear us, O Christ...

And now as our Saviour has taught us:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
(Please remain in your seat, communion will be brought to you.)

Sharing of the elements
As we share the bread, we recall that God will always love us.
As we share the ‘fruit’, we recall that God will never leave us.

(MV 205 Kingsfold Communion Set)
Amen, amen, O Holy One! Hosanna and Amen!
Amen, amen, O Holy One! Hosanna and Amen!

Prayer after Communion
Gracious God, at this holy table,
we share in the life of Christ.
May we who have been nourished by holy things bear witness to his light, and share in his ministry; this day, every day, in every way. Amen.

Hymn: VU 713 I See a New Heaven

I see a new heaven.
I see a new earth
as the old one will pass away,
where the fountain of life flows
and without price goes
to all people who abide in the land.

There, there on the banks of a river bright and free,
yielding her fruit, firm in her root,
the Tree of Life will be.

I see a new heaven.
I see a new earth
as the old one will pass away,
where the fountain of life flows
and without price goes
to all people who abide in the land.

There, there where death dies and our lives are born again,
body and soul, struggling but whole
like flowers after the rain.

I see a new heaven.
I see a new earth
as the old one will pass away,
where the fountain of life flows
and without price goes
to all people who abide in the land.

There, there where the darkness brings visions from above.
There where the night, bearing new light,
reveals the promise of love.

I see a new heaven.
I see a new earth
as the old one will pass away,
where the fountain of life flows
and without price goes
to all people who abide in the land.

There, there where we work with the love of healing hands.
Labour we must, true to our trust
to build a promised new land.

I see a new heaven.
I see a new earth
as the old one will pass away,
where the fountain of life flows
and without price goes
to all people who abide in the land.

Words and music: Carolyn McDade

Blessing
Go into the world where the Spirit of Christ is already at work, feeding, clothing, caring, tending.
We go in the name of Jesus to be the Body of Christ in our time and place. Amen. Let it be so!
