THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD

HYMN: MV 30 It’s A Song of Praise to the Maker

It’s a song of praise to the Maker,
the thrush sings high in the tree.
It’s a song of praise to the Maker,
the gray whale sings in the sea,
And by the Spirit you and I
can join our voice to the holy cry
and sing, sing, sing to the Maker too.

It’s a call of life to the Giver,
when waves and waterfalls roar.
It’s a call of life to the Giver,
when high tides break on the shore,
And by the Spirit you and I
can join our voice to the holy cry
and sing, sing, sing to the Maker too.

It’s a hymn of love to the Lover;
the bumblebees hum along.
It’s a hymn of love to the Lover;
the summer breeze joins the song,
And by the Spirit you and I
can join our voice to the holy cry
and sing, sing, sing to the Maker too.

It’s the chorus of all creation;
it’s sung by all living things.
It’s the chorus of all creation;
a song the universe sings,
And by the Spirit you and I
can join our voice to the holy cry
and sing, sing, sing to the Maker too.

Words: Ruth Duck; Music: Ron Klusmeier

In this time and place
We gather on the ancestral territories of Kwakwaka'wakw, Nuu-chah-nulth and Coast Salish peoples.
From many places and peoples we come to this house in prayer.
In this time and place
We gather in the name of the living God.
We meet in the presence of Jesus Christ, risen and alive.
In this time and place
We gather with the community of faith around the globe and across the ages.
In this time and place heaven and earth are one.
In this time and place
We are not alone, but one in Christ.
Knit together in the unity of the Spirit.
In this time and place
Hallowed, expectant, one people in God.
In the name of the Holy and Blessed One,
+Creator, Redeemer, and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Centering Stillness
Let us hold this moment open to the Spirit of God. (silence)

Collect
Generous God, ... through Jesus Christ the cornerstone.
Amen. Alleluia!

Hymn: MV 39 Mother Earth, Our Mother Birthing

Mother Earth, our Mother birthing
ev’ry creature from the ground.
Jesus too was flesh and breathing,
kin to all that’s green and brown.

Celebrate with all creation:
God has formed the web of life;
Celebrate with all creation
God has formed the web of life.

Sister Air, our Sister lifting
ev’ry creature born with wings;
Jesus shared the breath of forests,
breath that makes our spirits sing.

Celebrate with all creation:
God has formed the web of life
Celebrate with all creation
God has formed the web of life.

Brother Water, Brother pulsing
deep through ev’ry vein and sea,
Jesus drank the very raindrops
for our wine and in our tea.

Celebrate with all creation:
God has formed the web of life;
Celebrate with all creation
God has formed the web of life.

Father Fire, our father burning
with the sacred urge to live.
Jesus’ death completes the cycle,
bringing life beyond the grave.

Celebrate with all creation:
God has formed the web of life;
Celebrate with all creation
God has formed the web of life.

Words: Norman Habel; Music: Neil Weisensel.

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutłilala's! Listen deeply!

Acts of the Apostles: 11:1-18

Psalm 148 VU 871

Refrain: Let the whole creation cry, “Glory be to God on high.”
Praise God from the heavens; give praise in the heights! Give praise, all you angels; praise God, all you hosts!
Praise God, sun and moon, give praise, stars and lights! Praise God, farthest heavens, and all waters beyond heaven!
R: Let the whole creation cry, “Glory be to God on high.”

Let all things praise the Holy One, at whose command they were created, who established them for all time, setting bounds, which cannot be passed.
Praise God from the earth, great sea creatures and ocean depths, lightning and hail, snow and frost, gales that obey God’s decree,
all mountains and hills, all fruit trees and cedars, wild animals and cattle, creatures winged and earth-bound,
sovereigns who rule earth and its people, all who govern and judge this world, young men and women alike, old people and children together!
R: Let the whole creation cry, “Glory be to God on high.”

Let all things praise the name of God, the name above every other, whose splendor covers heaven and earth.
You give strength to your people, songs of praise to your faithful, to Israel, the people dear to your heart.
R: Let the whole creation cry, “Glory be to God on high.”

Jakob Hintze, harmony J.S. Bach

Epistle: Revelations 21: 1-6

HYMN: MV 120 My Soul Cries Out

My soul cries out with a joyful shout
that the God of my heart is great,
And my spirit sings of the wondrous things
that you bring to the ones who wait.
You fixed your sight on your servant's plight,
and my weakness you did not spurn,
so from east to west shall my name be blest.
Could the world be about to turn?

My heart shall sing of the day you bring.
Let the fires of your justice burn.
Wipe away all tears for the dawn draws near,
and the world is about to turn!

Though I am small, my God, my all,
you work great things in me,
and your mercy will last from the depths of the past
to the end of the age to be.
Your very name puts the proud to shame,
and to those who would for you yearn,
you will show your might, put the strong to flight,
for the world is about to turn.

My heart shall sing of the day you bring.
Let the fires of your justice burn.
Wipe away all tears for the dawn draws near,
and the world is about to turn!

From the halls of power to the fortress tower,
not a stone will be left on stone.
Let the king beware for your justice tears
ev'ry tyrant from his throne.
The hungry poor shall weep no more,
for the food they can never earn;
there are tables spread, ev'ry mouth be fed,
for the world is about to turn.

My heart shall sing of the day you bring.
Let the fires of your justice burn.
Wipe away all tears for the dawn draws near,
and the world is about to turn!

Though the nations rage from age to age,
we remember who holds us fast:
God's mercy must deliver us
from the conqueror's crushing grasp.
This saving word that our forebears heard
is the promise which holds us bound,
‘til the spear and rod can be crushed by God,
who is turning the world around.

My heart shall sing of the day you bring.
Let the fires of your justice burn.
Wipe away all tears for the dawn draws near,
and the world is about to turn!

Offertory Hymn: VU 376 Spirit of the Living God

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Melt me, mould me, fill me, use me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.

Spirit of the living God, move among us all;
make us one in heart and mind, make us one in love:
humble, caring, selfless, sharing.
Spirit of the living God, fill our lives with love!

Words (v.1) and music Daniel Iverson, Words (v.2) Michael Baughen; Arr. Darryl Nixon.

Response: VU 540 Grant Us, God, the Grace

Grant us, God, the grace of giving,
with a spirit large and free,
that ourselves and all our living
we may offer faithfully.

Prayer over the gifts

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Hymn: VU 678 For the Healing of the Nations

For the healing of the nations,
God we pray with one accord;
For a just and equal sharing
of the things that earth affords.
To a life of love in action,
help us rise and pledge our word.

Lead us forward into freedom,
from despair your world release;
That, redeemed from war and hatred,
all may come and go in peace.
Show us how through care and goodness,
fear will die and hope increase.

All that kills abundant living,
let it from the earth be banned:
Pride of status, race or schooling,
dogmas that obscure your plan.
In our common quest for justice,
may we hallow life`s brief span.

You, Creator God, have written
your great name on humankind;
for our growing in your likeness
bring the life of Christ to mind;
that, by our response and service,
earth its destiny may find.

Words: Fred Kaan, Music: Henry Purcell.

The Doxology, Blessing and Dismissal
Glory to God,
whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Blessing

Sending
Carry out into the world the love of God in Christ.
Loved, forgiven and redeemed, we go forth!
