Hymn:
VU 238 How Great Thou Art

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
consider all the works thy hand hath made,
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee,
How great thou art! How great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee,
How great thou art! How great thou art!

When through the woods and forest glades I wander,
and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,
and hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze;

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee,
How great thou art! How great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee,
How great thou art! How great thou art!

But when I think that God, his Son not sparing,
sent him to die, I scarce can take it in,
that on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
he bled and died to take away our sin.

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee,
How great thou art! How great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee,
How great thou art! How great thou art!

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then shall I bow in humble adoration,
and there proclaim, “My God, how great thou art!”

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee,
How great thou art! How great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee,
How great thou art! How great thou art!

Opening Prayer

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutlilala’s! Listen as God’s Word is proclaimed!

Epistle: Colossians 2: 6-15

Psalm 85 VU 802
Refrain: God, show us your love, show us your love and mercy.
Once you were gracious to your land, O God, you restored the fortunes of Jacob;
you forgave the offence of your people, and pardoned all their sin.
You drew back all your displeasure, and turned from your fiery wrath.
Restore us again, God our Saviour, and put away your just anger toward us.
Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your wrath to all generations?
Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?
R: God, show us your love, show us your love and mercy.

Let me hear what you will say, O God, for you will speak to your people, to the faithful who turn their hearts to you.
Surely salvation is near those who fear you, and your glory will dwell in our land.
Mercy and faithfulness will meet, justice and peace will embrace.
Faithfulness will spring up from the earth, and righteousness look down from heaven.
You, O God, will give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest.
Righteousness will go before you, and the paths of your feet will be peace.
R: God, show us your love, show us your love and mercy.

Music: Hal H. Hopson

Hymn:
VU 651 Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah

Guide me, O thou great Jehovah,
pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak, but thou art mighty,
hold me with thy powerful hand.
Bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
feed me till I want no more,
feed me till I want no more.

Open now the crystal fountain,
whence the healing stream doth flow;
let the fire and cloudy pillar
lead me all my journey through.
Strong deliverer, strong deliverer,
be thou still my strength and shield,
be thou still my strength and shield.

When I tread the verge of Jordan,
bid my anxious fears subside;
death of death and hell's destruction,
land me safe on Canaan's side:
Songs of praises, songs of praises
I will ever give to thee
I will ever give to thee.

Words: William Williams, English trans. Peter Williams and William Williams; Music: John Hughes.

The Peace
Good friends, as followers of Jesus, the new creation God intends is already at work in you. Peace be with you.
And also with you.

Offertory Hymn:
VU 664 What a Friend We Have in Jesus

What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged,
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness,
take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden,
encumbered with a load of care?
Christ the Saviour is our refuge;
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do our friends despise, forsake us?
Are we tempted to despair?
Jesus’ strength will shield our weakness
and we’ll find new courage there.

Response:
VU 540 Grant Us, God, the Grace

Grant us, God, the grace of giving,
with a spirit large and free,
that ourselves and all our living
we may offer faithfully.

Prayer over the Gifts

The Lord’s Prayer SFGP #12
And now as our Saviour has taught us let us sing:

Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in Heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
now and forever.
Amen.

Hymn:
VU 356 Seek Ye First the Kingdom

Seek ye first the kingdom of God
and God’s righteousness,
and all these things shall be added unto you.
Hal-le-lu, hal-le-lu-jah.

Ask and it shall be given unto you;
seek and you shall find;
knock and the door shall be opened unto you.
Hal-le-lu, hal-le-lu-jah.

We do not live by bread alone,
but by every word
that proceeds from the mouth of God.
Hal-le-lu, hal-le-lu-jah.

Words and Music: Karen Lafferty
