THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD

Lord, open our lips,
And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!
The Lord is in his holy temple:
O come, let us worship.

Hymn:
MV 8 And on This Path

And on this path, the gates of holiness are open wide,
and on this path, the gates of holiness are open wide,
and on this path, the gates of holiness are open wide!
Open wide! Open wide! Open wide! The gates are open wide!

So enter in the gates of holiness are open wide,
so enter in the gates of holiness are open wide,
so enter in the gates of holiness are open wide!
Open wide! Open wide! Open wide! The gates are open wide!

Words: Lynn Bauman Music: Linnea Good, 2003

The Collect of the Day

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutlilala’s!
Listen as God’s Word is proclaimed!

Hebrew Scripture: Jeremiah 31: 27-34
[The word of the Lord Thanks be to God]

Psalm 119: 97-104 VU p 840 Part 4
Refrain: Teach me, O God, the perfect way of your divine commands.
O how I love your law! It is my study all day long.
Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies; for it is always with me.
I have gained more insight than all my teachers, for your instruction is my study.
I have more understanding than the aged, for I keep your commandments.
R: Teach me, O God, the perfect way of your divine commands.

I have held my feet back from every evil way, in order to keep your word.
I have not swerved from your judgements, for you, yourself, have taught me.
How sweet is your word on my tongue, sweeter than honey in my mouth!
Through your commandments I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.
R: Teach me, O God, the perfect way of your divine commands.

Hymn:
VU 272 Open Your Ears, O Faithful People

Open your ears, O faithful people,
open your ears and hear God’s word.
Open your hearts, O faithful people,
God now speaks to you.

God has spoken to the people, hallelujah!
And those words are words of wisdom, hallelujah! (Hallelujah!)
[Repeat]

They who have ears to hear the message,
they who have ears, now let them hear.
They who would learn the way of wisdom,
Let them hear God’s word.

God has spoken to the people, hallelujah!
And those words are words of wisdom, hallelujah! (Hallelujah!)
[Repeat]

Words: from the Talmud: “Israel and the Torah are one”; English, Willard F Jabusch; Music: Hasidic melody; harmony Richard Proulx.

And also with you.

Praise to you, Jesus the Christ.

Sermon Reflection

Affirmation of Faith: The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Intercessions and Thanksgivings

Mission and Service/PWRDF

(Let us pray to the Lord, saying, “Lord, have mercy.”)

The Peace
The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.

Offertory Hymn:
VU 684 Make Me a Channel of Your Peace

Make me a channel of your peace:
where there is hatred let me bring your love;
where there is injury your healing power,
And where there's doubt true faith in you.

O Spirit grant that I may never seek
so much to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace:
where there's despair in life let me bring hope;
where there is darkness, only light;
and where there's sadness, ever joy.

O Spirit grant that I may never seek
so much to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
in giving to all that we receive,
and in dying that we're born to eternal life.

Words: attributed to St. Francis; Music: Sebastian Temple; arrangement Betty Pulkingham.

Response:
VU 540 Grant Us God, the Grace

Grant us, God, the grace of giving,
with a spirit large and free,
that ourselves and all our living
we may offer faithfully.

Prayer over the Gifts

And now as our Saviour has taught us let us pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Hymn:
MV 172 God Says

God says, “Be still so you may hear
the words I whisper in your ear.
If you will listen, you will know
I’m with you always where you go.”

God says, “Look up and see the prize
I’ve placed here right before your eyes.
Find beauty in the things of earth,
a cause for wonder and rebirth.”

God says, “Come here! I need your voice.
Please teach my people to rejoice.
In who you are, in what you do,
your life will show my love for you.”

God says, “Reach out! The world’s in need
and wants a word, a song, a deed.
send you forth to speak, to sing,
to act for Christ in everything.”

Words and music: Mary Bittner.
