Prayer of the Day
Faithful God, you invite us to be curious. You ask big questions with us and allow us to create big magic by your side.
Help us to listen and wonder. Amen.

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutlilala’s! Listen deeply as Scripture is read.

Hebrew Scripture: Isaiah 49: 1-7

Psalm 40: 1-12: VU 764
Refrain: You put a new song in my mouth, your name to glorify.
I waited patiently for you, O God; you bent down and heard my cry.
You lifted me out of the horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.
You put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.
Many shall see and wonder, and will put their trust in you.
R: You put a new song in my mouth, your name to glorify.

Blessed are those whose trust is in God,
Who have not turned to the proud, nor to those who follow a lie.
O God, my God, you have multiplied your wondrous deeds
And your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you!
I would proclaim and tell of them,
but they are more than can be numbered.
Sacrifice and offering you do not desire,
burnt offering and sacrifice for sin you have not required.
But you have opened my ears to hear, and I said: “Here I am, ready to do what is written in the scroll of the book.”
I delight to do your will, O my God, your law is in my heart.
R: You put a new song in my mouth, your name to glorify.

I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; I did not retrain my lips, as you well know.
I have not kept your goodness hidden in my heart, but have spoken of your faithfulness and your saving help.
I have not concealed your steadfast love, nor your truth from the great congregation.
Do not withhold from me your tender care, O God; may your love and truth ever preserve me.
R: You put a new song in my mouth, your name to glorify.

Epistle: 1 Corinthians 1: 1-9

*Hymn:
VU 567 Will You Come and Follow Me

Will you come and follow me if I but call your name?
Will you go where you don't know and never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown,
will you let my name be known,
will you let my life be grown
in you and you in me?

Will you leave yourself behind if I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare
should your life attract or scare?
Will you let me answer prayer
in you and you in me?

Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name?
Will you set the prisoners free and never be the same?
Will you kiss the leper clean,
and do such as this unseen,
and admit to what I mean
in you and you in me?

Will you love the 'you' you hide if I but call your name?
Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same?
Will you use the faith you've found
to reshape the world around,
through my sight and touch and sound
in you and you in me?

Christ, your summons echoes true when you but call my name.
Let me turn and follow you and never be the same.
In your company I’ll go
where your love and footsteps show.
Thus I’ll move and live and grow
in you and you in me.

The Peace
The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.
(We share the peace in physically distant yet socially cohesive ways)

*Hymn:
VU 460: All Who Hunger

All who hunger gather gladly;
holy manna is our bread.
Come from wilderness and wandering.
Here, in truth, we will be fed.
You that yearn for days of fullness,
all around us is our food.
Taste and see the grace eternal.
Taste and see that God is good.

All who hunger, never strangers;
seeker, be a welcome guest.
Come from restlessness and roaming.
Here, in joy, we keep the feast.
We that once were lost and scattered
in communion’s love have stood.
Taste and see the grace eternal.
Taste and see that God is good.

All who hunger, sing together;
Jesus Christ is living bread.
Come from loneliness and longing.
Here, in peace, we have been led.
Blest are those who from this table
live their days in gratitude.
Taste and see the grace eternal.
Taste and see that God is good.

*Response:
MV 191 What Can I Do

What can I do? What can I bring?
What can I say? What can I sing?
I’ll sing with joy. I’ll say a prayer
I’ll bring my love, I’ll do my share.

*Prayer over the Gifts

THE SACRED MEAL IS SHARED
The wise ones followed the star to find the Christ child. ...

...You loved us so fully and completely, you came to us in a child.
You call us, invite us, and welcome us to do work in Jesus’ name.
You call us, invite us, and welcome us to shine Christ’s light to a world.

(MV 203 Kingsfold Communion Set)
O holy, holy, holy, God, O God of time and space.
All earth and sea and sky above bear witness to your grace.
Hosanna in the highest heav’n, creation sings your praise.
And blessed is the One who comes and bears your name always!

...That they may remind us of the body and blood that were broken and shed for us.At this table, may we be nourished so that we may go out into the world and continue the work you called us to – to love, serve, and care in the name of your Son, Jesus the Christ who taught us to pray together …

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

(Please remain in at your seat, communion will be brought to you.)

Sharing of the elements
As we share the bread, we recall that God will always love us.
As we share the ‘fruit’, we recall that God will never leave us.

Prayer after Communion
Gracious God, at this holy table,
we share in the life of Christ. May we who have been nourished by holy things bear witness to his light, and share in his ministry; this day, every day, in every way. Amen.

*Hymn:
MV 145 Draw the Circle Wide

Draw the circle wide.
Draw it wider still.
Let this be our song,
no one stands alone,
standing side by side,
draw the circle wide.

God the still point of the circle,
‘round whom all creation turns;
nothing lost, but held forever,
in God’s gracious arms.

Draw the circle wide.
Draw it wider still.
Let this be our song,
no one stands alone,
standing side by side,
draw the circle wide.

Let our hearts touch far horizons,
so encompass great and small;
let our loving know no borders,
faithful to God’s call.

Draw the circle wide.
Draw it wider still.
Let this be our song,
no one stands alone,
standing side by side,
draw the circle wide.

Let the dreams we dream be larger,
than we’ve ever dreamed before;
let the dream of Christ be in us,
open every door.

Draw the circle wide.
Draw it wider still.
Let this be our song,
no one stands alone,
standing side by side,
draw the circle wide.

*Blessing

*Sending Forth
God, lead us, that we may stand firm in faith for justice.
Teach us love, teach us compassion.
Above all, out of love and compassion, teach us to act!
AMEN. Gilakas’la

*Three-fold Amen
