Mission Statement
As followers of Jesus Christ, our church is a community called to love, honour, worship, and serve God. We invite others to share our Christian journey as we grow in faith and engage in ministry in our town and mission in our world.

THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD
Call to Worship

*Hymn:
VU 642 Be Thou My Vision (verses 1, 2, 4, 5)

Be thou my vision, O joy of my heart;
naught be all else to me save that thou art,
thou my best thought, by day or by night,
waking or sleeping thy presence my light.

Be thou my wisdom, my calm in all strife;
I ever with thee, and thou in my life;
thou loving parent, thy child may I be,
thou in me dwelling, and I one with thee.

Riches I heed not, nor vain empty praise,
thou mine inheritance, now and always;
thou and thou only, the first in my heart,
great God of heaven, my treasure thou art.

Great God of heaven, after victory won,
may I reach heaven's joys, O bright heaven's sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
still be my vision, O ruler of all.

Opening Prayer

Prayer of the Day

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutłilala's! Listen deeply as Scripture is read.

Hebrew Scripture: Micah 6: 1-8 42: 1-9

Psalm 15 VU 736

Refrain: Within your holy place, O God, who shall a dweller be?
God, who may be a guest in your house,
or who may dwell on your holy mountain?
R: Within your holy place, O God, who shall a dweller be?

One who leads a blameless life,
who does what is right, who speaks truthfully from the heart;
one whose tongue is free from malice,
who never wrongs a friend, who utters no reproach against a neighbour;
one who cannot respect the unworthy, but honours those who fear God;
who stands by a promise given, though it be to personal disadvantage;
one who will not take interest on a loan, nor accept a bribe to testify against the innocent.
Whoever does this shall never be overthrown.
R: Within your holy place, O God, who shall a dweller be?

Epistle 1 Corinthians 1: 18-31

*Hymn:
VU 701 What Does the Lord Require of You

Part 1: What does the Lord require of you? What does the Lord require of you?
Part 2: Justice, kindness, walk humbly with your God.
Part 3: To seek justice, and love kindness, and walk humbly with your God.

*Gospel: Matthew 5: 1-12
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church.
Thanks be to God.

Sermon Reflection

*Profession of Faith: A New Creed
We are not alone,
we live in God’s world.
We believe in God: who has created and is creating,
who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh,
to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit.
We trust in God.
We are called to be the Church:
to celebrate God’s presence,
to live with respect in Creation,
to love and serve others,
to seek justice and resist evil,
to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope.
In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us.
We are not alone. Thanks be to God.

Prayers of the People
Minute for Mission

God of all goodness, by glimpsing something of your vision of a just and merciful world, we become acutely aware of how much inhumanity and suffering still exists in the world. It would overwhelm us if it were not for the tender beauty and hope that arises each new morning and shimmers from the heavens at night.

And so from graced places of gratitude and wonder we pray: For Earth staggering under the weight of global warming and deforestation,
together, may we see and find another way.
For people staggering under the weight of poverty, violence, and loss,
together, may we see and find another way.
For nations staggering under the weight of pride and a need to impose their will,
together, may we see and find another way.

And for the Christian Church staggering under the weight of seeming irrelevance within secular cultures,
together, may we see and find another way.
God of all, honour the desires in our hearts and may they flourish within the people of grace and compassion we seek to be. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer
And now as our Saviour has taught us let us pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Peace
The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.
(We share the peace in physically distant yet socially cohesive ways).

*Hymn:
VU 684 Make Me a Channel of Your Peace

Make me a channel of your peace:
where there is hatred let me bring your love;
where there is injury your healing power,
And where there's doubt true faith in you.

O Spirit grant that I may never seek
so much to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace:
where there's despair in life let me bring hope;
where there is darkness, only light;
and where there's sadness, ever joy.

O Spirit grant that I may never seek
so much to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
in giving to all that we receive,
and in dying that we're born to eternal life.

*Response:
VU 541 Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
praise God, all creatures high and low;
give thanks to God in love made known:
Creator, Word and Spirit One! Amen

Prayer over the Gifts

Blessing

*Hymn:
VU 210 You Lord are Both Lamb and Shepherd

You, Lord, are both lamb and shepherd.
You, Lord, are both prince and slave.
You, peacemaker and sword bringer
of the way you took and gave.
You the everlasting instant,
you, whom we both scorn and crave.

Clothed in light upon the mountain,
stripped of might upon the cross,
shining in eternal glory,
beggared by a soldier’s toss.
You, the everlasting instant,
you who are both gift and cost.

You, who walk each day beside us,
sit in power at God’s side.
You, who preach a way that’s narrow,
have a love that reaches wide.
You the everlasting instant;
you, who are our pilgrim guide.

Worthy is our earthly Jesus!
Worthy is our cosmic Christ!
Worthy your defeat and victory.
Worthy still your peace and strife
You the everlasting instant;
you, who are our death and life.

Sending Forth

MV 215: Peace be with you

Peace be with you, peace forever,
Peace be with you, my friends.
Till we meet again, may God be with you.
Peace, peace, peace.
(Repeat; there’s actions too)
