THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.
And also with you.
Almighty God,
to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

*Hymn:
VU 221 Sing Praise to God, Who Has Shaped

Sing praise to God, who has shaped and sustains all creation!
Sing praise, my soul, in profound and complete adoration!
Gladsome rejoice - organ and trumpet and voice -
joining God's great congregation.

Praise God, our guardian, who lovingly offers correction,
who, as on eagle's wings, saves us from sinful dejection.
Have you observed, how we are always preserved
by God's parental affection?

Sing praise to God, with sincere thanks for all your successes.
Merciful God ever loves to encourage and bless us.
Only conceive what godly strength can achieve:
strength that would touch and caress us.

Sing praise, my soul, the great name of your high God commending.
All that have life and breath join you, their notes sweetly blending.
God is your light!
Soul, ever keep this in sight:
amen, amen never ending.

Words: Joachim Neander, trans. Madeleine Forell Marshall; Music: Stralsund Gesangbuch.

Collect

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutlilala’s! Listen as God’s Word is proclaimed!
Hebrew Scripture: Deuteronomy 30: 15-20

Psalm 119: 1-8 VU 838 Part One

Refrain: Happy are they who follow your law, O God!
Happy are those who live a blameless life, who follow your law, O God.
Happy are those who keep your decrees, who seek you with their whole heart.
They also do no wrong, but walk in your ways.
You have given your precepts for us to keep diligently.
R: Happy are they who follow your law, O God!

O that my ways might be steadfast in the keeping of your statutes.
Then I will not be put to shame, when I hear all your commandments.
I will truly thank you from the heart, when I learn your righteous decrees.
I will keep your statutes. O do not utterly forsake me.
R: Happy are they who follow your law, O God!

Epistle: 1 Corinthians 3: 1-9

*Hymn:
MV 89 Love is the Touch

Love is the touch of intangible joy;
love is the force that no fear can destroy;
love is the goodness we gladly applaud:
God is where love is, for love is of God.

Love is the lilt in a lingering voice;
love is the hope that can make us rejoice;
love is the cure for the frightened and flawed:
God is where love is, for love is of God.

Love is the light in the tunnel of pain;
love is the will to be whole once again;
love is the trust of a friend on the road:
God is where love is, for love is of God.

Love is the Maker and Spirit and Son;
love is the kingdom their will has begun;
love is the path that the saints all have trod:
God is where love is, for love is of God.

Words: Alison M. Robertson, Music: John L. Bell.

May God be with you!
And also with you!
The Holy Gospel of Jesus the Christ according to Matthew.
Glory to you Christ our Saviour.
*Gospel: Matthew 5: 21-37
The Gospel of Christ.
Praise to you Jesus the Christ.

Sermon Reflection

Intercessions
Let us offer our prayers to the source of all love and all life,
At the bidding: In your mercy;
Please respond:God, hear our prayer.
Gracious God, the well-spring of life, pour into our hearts the living water of your grace. By your light we see light. Increase our faith, and grant that we may walk in the brightness of your presence, through Jesus the Christ. Amen

Confession and Absolution
Dear friends in Christ, God is steadfast in love and infinite in mercy; he welcomes sinners and invites them to his table. Let us confess our sins, confident in God’s forgiveness. Silence is kept.

Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life; through Jesus the Christ. Amen

The Peace
The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.

*Offertory hymn:
VU 227 For the Fruit of All Creation

For the fruit of all creation,
thanks be to God.
For the gifts to every nation,
thanks be to God.
For the ploughing, sowing, reaping,
silent growth while we are sleeping,
future needs in earth's safekeeping,
thanks be to God.

In the just reward of labour,
God's will is done.
In the help we give our neighbour,
God's will is done.
In our worldwide task of caring
for the hungry and despairing,
in the harvests we are sharing,
God's will is done.

For the harvests of the Spirit,
thanks be to God.
For the good we all inherit,
thanks be to God.
For the wonders that astound us,
for the truths that still confound us,
most of all that love has found us,
thanks be to God.

Words: Fred Pratt Green; Music: Welsh folk melody.

*Responsive Hymn:
VU 581 v2 When We Are Living

Through all our living, we our fruits must give.
Good works of service are for offering.
When we are giving, or when receiving,
we belong to God; we belong to God.

*Prayer over the Gifts

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING

May God be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to God.
Let us give thanks to God our Creator.
It is right to offer thanks and praise.
Eternal God, Source of all being, we give you thanks and praise ...

Therefore we raise our voices with angels and archangels, forever praising you and saying (singing):

SANCTUS: St. Bride Setting

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord,
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord,
God of pow’r and might,
God of pow’r and might,
Heaven and earth are full,
Heaven and earth are full,
are full of your glory.
are full of your glory.

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord,
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord,
God of pow’r and might,
God of pow’r and might,
Heaven and earth are full,
Heaven and earth are full,
are full of your glory.
are full of your glory.

Blessed is the one who comes
Blessed is the one who comes
In the name of the Lord!
In the name of the Lord!

Hosanna in the Highest!
Hosanna in the Highest!
Hosanna in the Highest!
Hosanna in the Highest!
Hosanna in the Highest!
Hosanna in the Highest!

Blessed are you, O Holy One: when Hagar was driven into the wilderness you followed her and gave her hope. When Joseph was sold into bondage, you turned malice to your people’s good.
When you called Israel out of slavery, you brought them through the wilderness into the promised land. When your people were taken into exile you wept with them by the river of Babylon and carried them home.
Restore us, O God, let your face shine!
At the right time you sent your Anointed One to stand with the poor, the outcast, and the oppressed. ....

...Loving and Holy One, recalling Christ’s death and resurrection, we offer you these gifts, longing for the bread of tomorrow and the wine of the age to come. Therefore we proclaim our hope.
Dying you destroyed our death, rising you restored our life.
Lord Jesus, come in glory.

Pour out your Spirit on these gifts that through them you may sustain us in our hunger for your peace. We hold before you all whose lives are marked by suffering, our sisters and brothers. When we are broken and cast aside, embrace us in your love.
Restore us, O God, let your face shine!
Through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, O Source of all life, now and for ever. Amen.

And now as our Saviour has taught us:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Sharing of the elements
“I am the bread of life,” says the Lord. “Whoever comes to me will never be hungry; whoever believes in me will never thirst.”
Taste and see that the Lord is good; happy are they who trust in him!
The gifts of God for the People of God.
Thanks be to God.

The Bread: We are One in the Love of Christ.
The Cup: We are One in the Cup of Salvation.

Prayer after Communion

*Hymn:
VU 559 Come, O Fount of Every Blessing

Come, O Fount of every blessing,
tune my heart to sing your grace;
streams of mercy never ceasing
call for songs of endless praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount; I'm fixed upon it,
mount of God's unfailing love.

Here I pause in my sojourning,
giving thanks for having come,
come to trust, at every turning,
God will guide me safely home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
wandering from the fold of God,
came to rescue me from danger,
precious presence, precious blood.

O, to grace how great a debtor
daily I am drawn anew!
Let that grace now, like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to you.
Prone to wander, I can feel it,
wander from the love I've known:
here's my heart, O, take and seal it,
seal it for your very own.

Words: Robert Robinson altered; Music: John Wyeth, Repository of Sacred Music, Part II

Glory to God,
whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Dismissal
Let us bless the Lord. Thanks be to God!!!

Three-fold Amen!
