THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
And also with you.

God is full of compassion and mercy:
O come, let us worship.

*Hymn:
VU 121 Tree of Life and Awesome Mystery
(v. 1-4 & 1st Sunday)

Tree of Life and awesome mystery,
in your death we are reborn,
though you die in all of history,
still you rise with every morn,
still you rise with every morn.

Seed that dies to rise in glory,
may we see ourselves in you,
if we learn to live your story
we may die to rise anew,
we may die to rise anew.

We remember truth once spoken,
love passed on through act and word,
every person lost and broken
wears the body of our Lord,
wears the body of our Lord.

Gentle Jesus, mighty Spirit,
come inflame our hearts anew,
we may all your joy inherit
if we bear the cross with you,
if we bear the cross with you.

From the dawning of creation,
you have loved us as your own;
stay with us through all temptation,
make us turn to you alone,
make us turn to you alone.

Words and music: Marty Haugen

Sharing the Peace:
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutłilala's! Listen deeply as scripture is read the Word proclaimed.
Amen.
Hebrew Scripture: Genesis 2:15-17, 3:1-7

Psalm 32 VU 759
Refrain: Be glad in God you righteous. Rejoice, O saints, rejoice.
Blessed are those whose offences are forgiven, whose sin has been put away.
Blessed are those to whom God imputes no guilt, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.
R: Be glad in God you righteous. Rejoice, O saints, rejoice.

When I kept silence, my body wasted away, while I groaned all the day long.
For your hand was heavy upon me day and night; my strength dried up as in a summer drought.
Then I acknowledged my sin to you, my guilt I did not hide.
I said, “I will confess my sins to God”; and you forgave the guilt of my sin.
Therefore let all the faithful pray to you in time of trouble.
when great floodwater rises, it shall not come near them.
You are a hiding place for me, you will preserve me from trouble;
you will surround me with shouts of deliverance.
R: Be glad in God you righteous. Rejoice, O saints, rejoice.

I will teach you, and guide you in the way you should go.
I will keep you under my eye and instruct you.
Be not like a horse or mule, without understanding,
whose course must be checked with bit and bridle.
Many pains are in store for the wicked,
but whoever trusts in God, is surrounded by steadfast love.
R: Be glad in God you righteous. Rejoice, O saints, rejoice.

Epistle: Romans 5: 12-19

*Hymn:
VU 23 Joy Shall Come

Joy shall come, even to the wilderness,
and the parched land shall then know great gladness;
as the rose, as the rose shall deserts blossom,
deserts like a garden blossom.
For living springs shall give cool water,
in the desert streams shall flow;
for living springs shall give cool water,
in the desert streams shall flow.

Words and music: Israeli traditional; music arr. Darryl Nixon

Sermon Reflection

*Affirmation of Faith:

Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul,
with all your mind, and with all your strength.

This is the first and the great commandment.
The second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself.
There is no commandment greater than these.

*Offertory Hymn:
MV 16 Confitemini Domino

Con-fi-te-mi-ni Do-mi-no quo ni am bo-nus.
Con-fi-te-mi-ni Do-mi-no al-le-lu-ia!

Come and fill our hearts with your peace. You alone O Lord are holy.
Come and fill our hearts with your peace, alleluia!
(repeat as directed)

Words: Taize Community, Music: Jacques Berthier.

*Offering Response:
VU 266 Amazing Grace (v. 1)

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost but now am found,
was blind, but now I see.

*Prayer over the Gifts

Prayers of the People

Minute for Mission

One: . . . We pray to you God
All: Kyrie Eleison

The Lord’s Prayer (Alternate version VU 916)

Our Parent, who is in the heavens, may your name be made holy, may your dominion come, may your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today the bread we need; and forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors; and do not put us to the test, but rescue us from evil. For yours is the dominion, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

*Hymn:
MV 213 Take Up His Song

Take up his song of peace, and go into the world.
Take up his song of peace in every moment.
In every moment of the journey, we’re laying down our lives;
Lay them down, in peace, lay them down, and take up his song.

Take up his song of hope, and go into the world.
Take up his song of hope in every moment.
In every moment of the journey, we’re laying down our lives;
Lay them down, in hope, lay them down, and take up his song.

Take up his song of faith, and go into the world.
Take up his song of faith in every moment.
In every moment of the journey, we’re laying down our lives;
Lay them down, in faith, lay them down, and take up his song.

Take up his song of love, and go into the world.
Take up his song of love in every moment.
In every moment of the journey, we’re laying down our lives;
Lay them down, in love, lay them down, and take up his song.

Words and music: Laura A Herman; arr. Robin King.

*The Blessing and Dismissal

May the God of mercy transform you by his grace, and the blessing of God almighty, the Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer, be among you and remain with you always. Amen.

Glory to God, whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen.

May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Thanks be to God. Gilakas’la

Three-fold Amen
