THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD

Call to Worship
When doors were shut, and the world was kept out,
resurrection found the disciples.
When the church gathers, and the world waits outside,
resurrection finds us.
When fear grew, and new questions were found,
resurrection found the disciples.
When faith leads us to new questions about life,
resurrection finds us.
When suffering remained, and the city was hostile,
resurrection found the disciples.
When Christ gathers with his followers in living worship,
resurrection finds us.
Come, let us worship God!

*Hymn: VU 228 Sing Praises to God

Sing praises to God! Sing praise in the height;
rejoice in God's word, blest angels of light;
high heavens, recalling by whom you were made,
come, offer your worship in brightness arrayed.

Sing praises to God! Sing praise upon earth,
in tuneful accord, you saints of new birth;
praise God, who has brought you rich grace from above,
and showered your life with abundance of love.

Sing praises to God! all things that give sound,
each jubilant chord re-echo around;
loud organs, your glory tell out in deep tone,
and trumpets, the story of what God has done.

Sing praises to God! Thanksgiving and song
be ever outpoured, all ages along:
for love in creation, for hope spread abroad,
for grace of salvation, sing praises to God.

Opening Prayer

Prayer of the Day

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutłilala's! Listen deeply as Scripture is read.

The Acts of the Apostles: Acts 2: 14a-22-32

Psalm 16 VU 738
Refrain: Protect me, God: I trust in you.
Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge. I have said to God, “You are my God; from you alone comes all my prosperity.”
All my delight is in the faithful who dwell in the land, and in those who excel in virtue.
But as for those who run after other gods, their troubles shall be multiplied.
Libations of blood I will not offer to those gods, nor will I take their names upon my lips.
R: Protect me, God: I trust in you.

You God, are my allotted portion and my cup;
you yourself have cast my lot.
My boundaries enclose a pleasant land;
indeed I have a noble heritage.
I will thank you, God, for giving my counsel;
at night also you teach my heart.
I keep you always before me;
you are on my right hand, therefore I shall not fall.
R: Protect me, God: I trust in you.

So my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices; for my body shall also rest in safety.
For you will not surrender me to the Grave, nor suffer your beloved to see the Abyss.
You will show me the path of life.
In your presence is fullness of joy; and from your right hand flow delights for evermore.
R: Protect me, God: I trust in you.

Versification: Michael Saward; Music M. Christian T. Stover

Epistle: 1 Peter 1: 3-9

*Hymn: MV 115 Behold, I Make All Things New x3

Behold, (behold), behold, (behold), I make all things new,
beginning with you and starting from today.
Behold, (behold), behold, (behold), I make all things new,
my promise is true, for I am Christ the way.

Words and music: John L Bell.

*Gospel: John 20: 19-31
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church.
Thanks be to God.

Sermon Reflection

Prayers of the People

Minute for Mission/ PWRDF
Respond in the moments of silence during the prayers.

*The Lord’s Prayer: SUNG: SGP 12

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen.

The Peace
The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.

*Hymn: SNC 86 You Are Holy, You Are Whole

Part 1
You are holy, you are whole.
You are always ever more
than we ever understand.
You are always at hand.
Blessed are you coming near.
Blessed are you coming here
to your church in wine and bread,
raised from soil, raised from dead.

Part 2
You are holy,
you are wholeness,
you are present.
Let the cosmos praise you, Lord!
Sing hosanna
in the highest!
Sing hosanna!
Sing hosanna to our God!

Text and music: Per Harling

*Response: VU 541 Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
praise God, all creatures high and low;
give thanks to God in love made known:
Creator, Word and Spirit One! Amen

Prayer over the Gifts

Blessing:
The God of resurrection goes with you to ask questions and wonder about this world. The God of resurrection goes with you to surprise you with wonder and joy. Go to live in the world as Christ’s disciples.
We go as witnesses to all that God has done! Amen! Alleluia!

*Hymn: MV 145 Draw the Circle Wide

Draw the circle wide.
Draw it wider still.
Let this be our song,
no one stands alone,
standing side by side,
draw the circle wide.

God the still point of the circle,
‘round whom all creation turns;
nothing lost, but held forever,
in God’s gracious arms.

Draw the circle wide.
Draw it wider still.
Let this be our song,
no one stands alone,
standing side by side,
draw the circle wide.

Let our hearts touch far horizons,
so encompass great and small;
let our loving know no borders,
faithful to God’s call.

Draw the circle wide.
Draw it wider still.
Let this be our song,
no one stands alone,
standing side by side,
draw the circle wide.

Let the dreams we dream be larger,
than we’ve ever dreamed before;
let the dream of Christ be in us,
open every door.

Draw the circle wide.
Draw it wider still.
Let this be our song,
no one stands alone,
standing side by side,
draw the circle wide.

Words and music Gordon Light.

*Three-fold AMEN
