THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD

Opening Prayer
We come together, O God, lifted in song to hear our voices harmonize with others, and to tune our hearts to love.
We come together today, O God, to find welcome and affirmation, to be seen and heard and become aware of the warmth, the breath, the life we share.
The spirit of Christ abides in the shared space between us.
May we inhale deeply of this sacred presence and exhale words and actions of godly love.
May the Spirit bring us together and bring us back to life. Amen.

*Hymn: VU 217 All Creatures of Our God and King

All creatures of our God and King,
lift up your voice and with us sing:
hallelujah, hallelujah!
Bright burning sun with golden beam,
soft shining moon with silver gleam, sing praises, sing praises,
hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah!

O rushing winds and breezes soft,
O clouds that ride the winds aloft,
sing praises, hallelujah!
O rising morn, in praise rejoice;
O lights of evening, find a voice:
sing praises, sing praises,
hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah!

Earth, ever fertile, day by day
brings forth rich blessings on our way:
sing praises, hallelujah!
The flowers and fruits that verdant grow,
let them God’s glory also show:
sing praises, hallelujah!
hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah!

And everyone of tender heart,
forgiving others, take your part:
sing praises, hallelujah!
All who long pain and sorrow bear,
praise God and yield up all your care:
sing praises, hallelujah!
hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah!

Prayer of the Day
Holy God, lift our gaze and open our hearts, that we might see your love all around. May your abiding presence encourage us to love more. Amen.

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutlilala’s! Listen deeply as Scripture is read.
Hebrew Scripture: Acts 17: 22-31

Psalm 66: 7-18 VU 785 Part 2 & Part 3
Refrain 2: God of all, to you we raise this our song of joyful praise.
Bless our God, all peoples, and let the sound of praise be heard.
God has preserved us among the living, and kept our feet from stumbling.
For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried.
You led us into the desert, you laid a burden on our back.
you let sickness furrow our brow, we passed through fire and water;
but you brought us out to a land of plenty.
R 2: God of all, to you we raise this our song of joyful praise.

I will come to your house with burnt-offerings; I will pay you my vows,
the vows which I made with my lips, and swore with my mouth when I was in trouble.
I will offer fat beasts in sacrifice, a savory offering of rams;
I will prepare you an offering of bulls and goats.
R 2: God of all, to you we raise this our song of joyful praise.

Come then and listen, all you that fear God, while I tell what God has done for me.
I cried aloud to God; high praise was ready on my tongue.
If I had cherished evil in my heart, God would not have heard me.
But truly God has heard me, has given heed to the voice of my prayer.
Blessed are you, O God, for you have not rejected my prayer,
nor withdrawn from me your steadfast love.
R 2: God of all, to you we raise this our song of joyful praise.

Epistle: 1 Peter 3: 13-22

*Hymn: VU 376 Spirit of the Living God

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Melt me, mould me, fill me, use me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.

Spirit of the living God, move among us all;
make us one in heart and mind, make us one in love:
humble, caring, selfless, sharing.
Spirit of the living God, fill our lives with love!

Words (v.1) and music Daniel Iverson, Words (v.2) Michael Baughen; Arr. Darryl Nixon.

*Gospel: John 14: 15-21
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church.
Thanks be to God.

Sermon Reflection

Prayer of Confession
Forgiving One, unseen yet known, it has been another long week where many have felt unloved and unnoticed. We have done our best. We have loved even when we have felt lost. We have been gracious when we have felt ignored.

Forgiving One, seeing and forgiving, knowing and loving, we turn away from this hurt and frustration to find again the grace we all need to love again.

Hear us.
Forgive us.
Amen.
Silence is kept.

Words of affirmation

Prayers of the People
Minute for Mission/ PWRDF
Offering our prayers in the silences.

The Peace
The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.

*Hymn: VU 226 For the Beauty of the Earth

For the beauty of the earth,
for the glory of the skies,
for the love which from our birth
over and around us lies,
God of all, to you we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

For the beauty of each hour
of the day and of the night,
hill and vale, and tree and flower,
sun and moon, and stars of light,
God of all, to you we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

For the joy of human love,
brother, sister, parent, child,
friends on earth and friends above,
for all gentle thoughts and mild,
God of all, to you we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

For each perfect gift sublime
to our race so freely given;
graces human and divine,
flowers of earth and buds of heaven.
God of all, to you we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

*Response: VU 541 Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
praise God, all creatures high and low;
give thanks to God in love made known:
Creator, Word and Spirit One! Amen

*Prayer over the Gifts

THE SACRED MEAL IS SHARED
Come from the north, the west, the south, and the east.
Come from your fears and your grievings, your lost hopes and forgotten dreams – and come to a table set with grace and power that will not be deterred.
Christ is risen for you.
Love is alive! Alleluia! Alleluia!

We come with joy into the brightness of this new day and season ...

...We come together to taste and see the goodness of God. The table is wide, and there is room for all of creation.

SNC 86 You are Holy, You are Whole

Part 1
You are holy, you are whole.
You are always ever more
than we ever understand.
You are always at hand.
Blessed are you coming near.
Blessed are you coming here
to your church in wine and bread,
raised from soil, raised from dead.

Part 2
You are holy,
you are wholeness,
you are present.
Let the cosmos praise you, Lord!
Sing hosanna
in the highest!
Sing hosanna!
Sing hosanna to our God!

Text and music: Per Harling

Here we come around this table so full of love ...
... and celebrate the presence of the risen Christ, here in our very midst. Amen!

*SGP 12 The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen.

Sharing of the elements
As we share the bread, we recall that God will always love us.
As we share the ‘fruit’, we recall that God will never leave us.

Prayer after Communion
Life-giving God, may we, who share Christ’s body, live his risen life; we, who drink his cup, bring new life to others; we, whom the Spirit lights, give light to the world. Keep us firm in the hope you have set before us,
so that we and all your children shall be free, and all creation will live to praise your name. Amen.

*Hymn: VU 232 Joyful, Joyful We Adore You

Joyful, joyful, we adore you,
God of glory, life and love;
hearts unfold like flowers before you,
opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness,
drive the gloom of doubt away;
giver of immortal gladness,
fill us with the light of day.

All your works with joy surround you,
earth and heaven reflect your rays,
stars and angels sing around you,
centre of unbroken praise.
Field and forest, vale and mountain,
flowery meadow, flashing sea,
chanting bird and flowing fountain,
sound their praise eternally.

You are giving and forgiving,
ever blessing, ever blest,
wellspring of the joy of living,
ocean depth of happy rest!
Source of grace and fount of blessing,
let your light upon us shine;
teach us how to love each other,
lift us to the joy divine.

Mortals, join the mighty chorus
which the morning stars began;
God's own love is reigning o'er us,
joining people hand in hand.
Ever singing, march we onward,
victors in the midst of strife;
joyful music lifts us sunward
in the triumph song of life.

*Blessing:
God sends us out into the world,
but not alone.
God sends us out into the world,
but not without support.
God sends us out into the world,
but not forsaken.
We go in God and God in us,
blessed and filled with the promise of life.
God sends us out into the world,
and we will go. Amen

*Commissioning
Let us go from here seeking to proclaim the Good News.
We will seek to show one another abundant love.
Let us go as disciples and servants. Amen.
AMEN. Gilakas’la

*Three-fold Amen
