THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD
Call to Worship (2 Corinthians 5:17)
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ,
the new creation has come.
The old has gone,
the new is here.!

*Hymn: VU 315 Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord GOD Almighty

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee;
holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee,
casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee,
though the eye made blind by sin thy glory may not see,
only thou art holy; there is none beside thee,
perfect in power, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea;
holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

Opening Prayer

Prayer of the Day

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutłilala's! Listen deeply as Scripture is read.
Hebrew Scripture: Daniel 7: 9-10, 13-14

Psalm 99 VU 819
Refrain: You rule with justice in delight, and faithfulness maintain.
You reign, O God, and the people tremble, you sit enthroned upon the cherubim, and the earth is quaking.
You O God, are great in Zion, you are exalted over all the nations.
Let them praise your great and awesome name: holy are you and mighty, a ruler who delights in justice.
You have determined what is fair, you have done in Jacob what is just and right.
R: You rule with justice in delight, and faithfulness maintain.

Moses and Aaron were among your priests, Miriam among those who called upon your name; they called to you, God, and you answered.
In the pillar of cloud you spoke to them, they kept your teachings and the law that you gave them.
O God, our God, you answered them;
to them you were a forgiving God, though you punished their offences.
Proclaim the greatness of God and worship on God’s holy hill;
for God, our God, is the Holy One.
R: You rule with justice in delight, and faithfulness maintain.

Epistle 2 Peter 1: 16-19

*Hymn: VU 210 You, Lord, Are Both Lamb and Shepherd

You, Lord, are both lamb and shepherd.
You, Lord, are both prince and slave.
You, peacemaker and sword bringer
of the way you took and gave.
You the everlasting instant,
you, whom we both scorn and crave.

Clothed in light upon the mountain,
stripped of might upon the cross,
shining in eternal glory,
beggared by a soldier’s toss.
You, the everlasting instant,
you who are both gift and cost.

You, who walk each day beside us,
sit in power at God’s side.
You, who preach a way that’s narrow,
have a love that reaches wide.
You the everlasting instant;
you, who are our pilgrim guide.

Worthy is our earthly Jesus!
Worthy is our cosmic Christ!
Worthy your defeat and victory.
Worthy still your peace and strife
You the everlasting instant;
you, who are our death and life.

*Gospel: Luke 9: 28-36
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church.
Thanks be to God.

Sermon Reflection

Prayers of the People
Minute for Mission/ PWRDF
In the silences between please add your petitions, prayers and praise.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen.

The Peace
The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.

*Hymn: MV 37 Each Blade of Grass

Each blade of grass, ev’ry wing that soars,
the waves that sweep across a distant shore,
make full the circle of God.
Each laughing child, ev’ry gentle eye,
a forest lit beneath a moon-lit sky,
make full the circle of God.

Each silent paw, ev’ry rounded stone,
the buzz that echoes from a honey’d comb,
make full the circle of God.
Each fire-brimmed star, ev’ry out-stretched hand,
the wind that leaps and sails across the land,
make full the circle of God.

Each icy peak, ev’ry patterned shell,
the joyous chorus that the dawn foretells,
make full the circle of God.
Each cosmic hue, ev’ry creature’s way,
all form the beauty of this vast array,
making full the circle of God.

*Response: MV 77 Be Still and Know (3x)

Be still and know that I am God.

*Hymn: VU 679 Let There Be Light

Let there be light,
let there be understanding,
let all the nations gather,
let them be face to face;

open our lips,
open our minds to ponder,
open the way to concord
opening into grace;

perish the sword,
perish the angry judgement,
perish the bombs and hunger,
perish the fight for gain;

hallow our love,
hallow the deaths of martyrs,
hallow their holy freedom,
hallowed be your name;

your kingdom come,
your spirit turn to language,
your people speak together,
your spirit never fade;

let there be light,
open our hearts to wonder,
perish the way of terror,
hallow the world God made.

*Three-fold Amen
