THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD

Call to Worship
We have climbed trees and over mountains hoping to find a place of belonging.
Love is possible.
We cross the boundaries that divide us by ages and stages, ethnicities and genders, hurts and disagreements.
Love is possible.
We open our hearts and ready our hands to reach out to one another, and discover One who is within and beyond us.
Love is possible.
Let us worship together in love.

*Hymn: VU 686 God of Grace and God of Glory

God of grace and God of glory,
on your people pour your power;
now fulfil your church’s story;
bring its bud to glorious flower.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
for the facing of this hour.
For the facing of this hour.

Lo! the hosts of evil round us,
scorn your Christ, assail your ways.
fears and doubts too long have bound us,
free our hearts to work and praise.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
for the living of these days.
For the living of these days.

Cure your children’s warring madness,
bend our pride to your control;
shame our wanton selfish gladness,
rich in goods and poor in soul.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
lest we miss your kingdom’s goal.
Lest we miss your kingdom’s goal.

Set our feet on lofty places,
gird our lives that they may be
armoured with all Christ-like graces,
pledged to set all captives free.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
that we fail not them nor thee.
That we fail not them nor thee.

Opening Prayer
We reach out to you, God, in our believing and in our doubting. We reach out to you with our dreams, our songs, and our listening. We know you have already reached out to us before we even thought about reaching out to you, so we come to give you thanks today. Amen.

Prayer of the Day

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutłilala's! Listen deeply as Scripture is read.

Psalm 133
How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!
It is like the precious oil on the head, running down upon the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down the collar of his robes.
It is like the dew of Hermon which falls on the mountains of Zion.
For there the LORD ordained the blessing of life forevermore.

Epistle: Romans 11: 1-2a, 29-32

*Hymn: MV 138 My Love Colours Outside the Lines

My Lord colours outside the lines,
turns wounds to blessings, water into wine;
and takes me into places where I’ve never been before,
and opens doors to worlds outside the lines.

We’ll never walk on water if we’re not prepared to drown,
body and soul need a soaking from time to time.
And we’ll never move the gravestones if we’re not prepared to die,
and realize there are worlds outside the lines.

My soul longs to colour outside the lines,
tear back the curtains, sun, come in and shine;
I want to walk beyond the boundaries where I’ve never been before,
throw open doors to worlds outside the lines.

We’ll never walk on water if we’re not prepared to drown,
body and soul need a soaking from time to time.
And we’ll never move the gravestones if we’re not prepared to die,
and realize there are worlds outside the lines.

My soul longs to colour outside the lines,
tear back the curtains, sun, come in and shine;
I want to walk beyond the boundaries where I’ve never been before,
throw open doors to worlds outside the lines.

Sermon Reflection

Prayers of the People
Minute for Mission/ PWRDF

Leader: Lord hear us.
Response: God graciously hear us.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen.

The Peace
The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.
(share the peace as you are comfortable)

*Hymn: MV 79 Spirit, Open My Heart

Spirit, open my heart
to the joy and pain of living.
As you love may I love,
in receiving and in giving,
Spirit, open my heart.

God, replace my stony heart
with a heart that’s kind and tender.
All my coldness and fear
to your grace I now surrender.

Spirit, open my heart
to the joy and pain of living.
As you love may I love,
in receiving and in giving,
Spirit, open my heart.

Write your love upon my heart
as my law, my goal, my story.
In each thought, word, and deed,
may my living bring you glory.

Spirit, open my heart
to the joy and pain of living.
As you love may I love,
in receiving and in giving,
Spirit, open my heart.

May I weep with those who weep,
share the joy of sister, brother.
In the welcome of Christ,
may we welcome one another.

Spirit, open my heart
to the joy and pain of living.
As you love may I love,
in receiving and in giving,
Spirit, open my heart.

Words: Ruth Duck Music: traditional melody, Ireland; arr. Arthur G. Clyde.

*Response: VU 541 Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow

praise God, all creatures high and low;
give thanks to God in love made known:

*Hymn: MV 145 Draw the Circle Wide

Draw the circle wide.
Draw it wider still.
Let this be our song,
no one stands alone,
standing side by side,
draw the circle wide.

God the still point of the circle,
‘round whom all creation turns;
nothing lost, but held forever,
in God’s gracious arms.

Draw the circle wide.
Draw it wider still.
Let this be our song,
no one stands alone,
standing side by side,
draw the circle wide.

Let our hearts touch far horizons,
so encompass great and small;
let our loving know no borders,
faithful to God’s call.

Draw the circle wide.
Draw it wider still.
Let this be our song,
no one stands alone,
standing side by side,
draw the circle wide.

Let the dreams we dream be larger,
than we’ve ever dreamed before;
let the dream of Christ be in us,
open every door.

Draw the circle wide.
Draw it wider still.
Let this be our song,
no one stands alone,
standing side by side,
draw the circle wide.

Words and music Gordon Light.

*Three-fold Amen
