THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD

GATHERING: (John Robbins)
May all be fed.
May all be healed.
May all be loved.

*Hymn: MV 30 It’s A Song of Praise to the Maker

It’s a song of praise to the Maker,
the thrush sings high in the tree.
It’s a song of praise to the Maker,
the gray whale sings in the sea,
And by the Spirit you and I
can join our voice to the holy cry
and sing, sing, sing to the Maker too.

It’s a call of life to the Giver,
when waves and waterfalls roar.
It’s a call of life to the Giver,
when high tides break on the shore,
And by the Spirit you and I
can join our voice to the holy cry
and sing, sing, sing to the Maker too.

It’s a hymn of love to the Lover;
the bumblebees hum along.
It’s a hymn of love to the Lover;
the summer breeze joins the song,
And by the Spirit you and I
can join our voice to the holy cry
and sing, sing, sing to the Maker too.

It’s the chorus of all creation;
it’s sung by all living things.
It’s the chorus of all creation;
a song the universe sings,
And by the Spirit you and I
can join our voice to the holy cry
and sing, sing, sing to the Maker too.

Act of Penitence
Shepherd of Israel, God of hosts,
we have turned away from you,
neglecting the welfare of your creation,

ignoring the plight of your people,
trampling on the creatures and the plants you have made,
taking from Earth what we cannot give back.
We have not helped our neighbours in need,
we have not fed the hungry nor kept peace within our families,
or tended the vine you planted in our lives.
Forgive us and lead us to a more gracious life.
In your compassion, turn us to your way.
Restore us, O Lord God of hosts; let your face shine upon us,
that we may be saved. Amen.
(Feasting on the word worship companion: John Knox)

Absolution
May the God of love forgive and strengthen us to live in harmony with all creation. May the Spirit of Love fill our lives to overflowing, And may we walk, this day and always, in the footsteps of Christ. Amen.

Prayer of the Day
(from Prayers for an Inclusive Church (2009) alt)

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutłilala's! Listen deeply as Scripture is read.
Hebrew Scripture (The Torah): Exodus 16: 2-15

Psalm 105: 1-6, 37-45 VU 828 Part 1 (first 2 paragraphs) & Part 4

Refrain: Bless God, my soul. Hallelujah!
Give thanks and call on God’s name. Make known to the nations what God has done.
Sing, O sing the songs of praise; tell of all God’s wonderful deeds.
Exult in God’s holy name;
let those who seek God be joyful in heart.
R: Bless God, my soul. Hallelujah!

Turn for help to the One who is your strength; seek God’s presence continually.
Remember the marvels the Most High has done, the wonders and judgements God has given,
O children of Abraham and Sarah, God’s servants,
O offspring of Israel, chosen of God.
R: Bless God, my soul. Hallelujah!

You led Israel out, with spoil of silver and gold. Among the tribes not one fell behind.
The Egyptians were glad when they went, for dread of Israel had fallen upon them.
You spread cloud as a screen,
and fire as light by night.
The people asked, and you sent them quail; you filled them with bread from heaven.
You opened a rock and water gushed out: It flowed like a river through the arid land.
R: Bless God, my soul. Hallelujah!

For you remembered the sacred promise you made to Abraham and Sarah, your servants.
You led out your people rejoicing, your chosen ones with songs of gladness.
You gave them the lands of nations;
they took possession where others had toiled, that they might keep your laws and obey your teachings.
R: Bless God, my soul. Hallelujah!

Epistle Philippians 1: 21-30

*Hymn: NWiOW 58 The Thirsty Cry for Water Lord

The thirsty cry for water, Lord;
The hungry plead for bread.
And many long to rise again
Where hope, cast down lies dead.

The cup of water poured in love
The pangs of thirst will still.
The bread of earth You bid us share,
The famished child can fill.

But help us also hear the cry
Of hung’ring, thirsting hearts
For living water, bread of life
You grace alone imparts.

And come to us, O risen Christ,
our restless souls relieve;
And satisfy our starving hearts
That we may rise and live.

Text: Herman G. Stuempfle, Jr. Harmony Edwin O. Excell

Sermon Reflection

Minute for Mission/ PWRDF & Prayers of the People

Blessed are the poor, not those who are penniless, but those whose hearts are free.
Blessed are those who mourn, not those who whimper, but those who raise their voices in songs of anguish and justice.
Blessed are the meek, not the soft but those who are patient and bend in the wind of the Spirit.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice not those who whine, but those who stand with the oppressed.
Blessed are the merciful, not those who forget, but those who forgive Blessed are the pure in heart, not those who act like angels, but those whose speak the truth.
Blessed are the peacemakers, not those who shun conflict but those who face it squarely.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for justice not because they suffer, but because they love.
(Compartir, Santiago, Chile)
...and continuing with further prayers...

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, they will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

The Peace
The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.
(share the peace as you are comfortable)

*Hymn: VU 460 All Who Hunger

All who hunger gather gladly;
holy manna is our bread.
Come from wilderness and wandering.
Here, in truth, we will be fed.
You that yearn for days of fullness,
all around us is our food.
Taste and see the grace eternal.
Taste and see that God is good.

All who hunger, never strangers;
seeker, be a welcome guest.
Come from restlessness and roaming.
Here, in joy, we keep the feast.
We that once were lost and scattered
in communion’s love have stood.
Taste and see the grace eternal.
Taste and see that God is good.

All who hunger, sing together;
Jesus Christ is living bread.
Come from loneliness and longing.
Here, in peace, we have been led.
Blest are those who from this table
live their days in gratitude.
Taste and see the grace eternal.
Taste and see that God is good.

*Response: VU 541 Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow

Prayer over the Gifts

Blessing

*Hymn: VU 678 For the Healing of the Nations

For the healing of the nations,
God we pray with one accord;

For a just and equal sharing
of the things that earth affords.

To a life of love in action,
help us rise and pledge our word.

Lead us forward into freedom,
from despair your world release;

That, redeemed from war and hatred,
all may come and go in peace.
Show us how through care and goodness,
fear will die and hope increase.

All that kills abundant living,
let it from the earth be banned:
Pride of status, race or schooling,
dogmas that obscure your plan.
In our common quest for justice,
may we hallow life`s brief span.

You, Creator God, have written
your great name on humankind;
for our growing in your likeness
bring the life of Christ to mind;
that, by our response and service,
earth its destiny may find.
