Prayer of Approach

Hymn: VU 690 From the Slave Pens of the Delta
“From the slave pens of the delta,
From the ghettos on the Nile,
Let my people seek their freedom
In the wilderness a-while”;
So God spoke from out of Sinai;
So God spoke and it was done,
And the people crossed the waters
Toward the rising of the sun.

“From the aging shrines and structures,
From the cloister and the aisle,
Let my people seek their freedom
In the wilderness a-while”;
So the Son of God has spoken,
And the storm clouds are unfurled,
For his people must be scattered
To be servants in the world.

When we murmur on the mountains
For the old Egyptian plains,
When we miss our ancient bondage
And the hope, the promise wanes,
Then the rock shall yield its water,
And the manna fall by night,
And with visions of the future
Shall we march toward the light.

In the maelstrom of the nations,
In the journeying into space,
In the clash of generations,
In the hungering for grace,
In our agony and glory,
We are called to newer ways
By the Lord of our tomorrows
And the God of earth’s todays.

One: The Lord is in his holy temple:
All: O come let us worship

Venite: Come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us shout for joy to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving and raise a loud shout to him with psalms. For the Lord is a great God, and a great king above all gods. In his hand are the caverns of the earth, and the heights of the hills are his also. The sea is his for he made it, and his hands have moulded the dry land. Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee, and kneel before the Lord our maker. For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!

Affirmation of Faith – The Iona Creed

Let us confess the faith of our baptism as we say:

We believe in God above us, maker and sustainer of all life, Of sun and moon, of water and earth, of male and female. We believe in God beside us, Jesus Christ, the word made flesh, Born of a woman, servant of the poor, tortured and nailed to a tree. A man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief, he died alone and forsaken. He descended into the earth to the place of death. On the third day he rose from the tomb. He ascended into heaven, to be everywhere present throughout all ages, His kingdom will come on earth. We believe in God within us, the Holy Spirit burning with Pentecostal fire, Life-giving breath of the Church, Spirit of healing and forgiveness, source of all resurrection and of eternal life. Amen

Offertory Hymn: MV 42 Praise God for This Holy Ground

Praise God for this holy ground,
place and people, sight and sound.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
God’s goodness is eternal.

Praise God in whose word we find
food for body, soul and mind.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
God’s goodness is eternal.

Praise God who through Christ makes known
all are loved and called God’s own.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
God’s goodness is eternal.

Praise God’s Spirit who befriends,
raises, humbles, breaks and mends.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
God’s goodness is eternal.

Though praise ends, praise is begun
where God’s will is gladly done.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
God’s goodness is eternal.

Prayer over the Gifts

Intercessions & Thanksgiving

In our Shared Ministry Church Cycles of prayer, we pray for…
The church   /   The authorities
The World  /  The Local Community
Those in need  /  The departed and those who grieve

(In peace let us pray to the Lord, saying, “Lord, hear and have mercy.”)

We pray for all who confess the name of Christ: fill us with the power of your Holy Spirit.
Lord, hear and have mercy.

We pray for those whose lives are bound in mutual love, and for those who live in celibacy: be their joy and their strength.
Lord, hear and have mercy.

For all in danger, for those who are far from home, prisoners, exiles, victims of oppression: grant them your salvation.
Lord, hear and have mercy.

For all who are facing trials and difficulties, for those who are sick, and those who are dying: show them your kindness and mercy.
Lord, hear and have mercy.

We pray for one another: may we always be united in service and love.
Lord, hear and have mercy.

We pray to be forgiven our sins and set free from all hardship, distress, want, war, and injustice.
Lord, hear and have mercy.

May we discover new and just ways of sharing the goods of the earth, struggling against exploitation, greed, or lack of concern: may we all live by the abundance of your mercies and find joy together.
Lord, hear and have mercy.

May we be strengthened by our communion with all Christ’s saints.
Lord, hear and have mercy.

The Lord’s Prayer (spoken in our mother tongue)

Hymn: VU 635   All the Way My Saviour Leads Me

All the way my Saviour leads me;
what have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt his tender mercy
who through life has been my guide?
Heavenly peace, divinest comfort,
here by faith in him to dwell,
for I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well.

All the way my Saviour leads me,
cheers each winding path I tread,
gives me grace for every trial,
feeds me with the living bread.
Though my weary steps may falter,
and my soul athirst may be,
gushing from the Rock before me,
lo, a spring of joy I see!

All the way my Saviour leads me;
O the fullness of his love!
Perfect rest to me is promised
in my Father’s house above.
When my spirit, clothed immortal,
wings its flight to realms of day,
this my song through endless ages,
"Jesus led me all the way."

A Question to Ponder:  “When in your life has a limit that was placed upon you become a gift?”
