THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD

Call to Worship

Come into this place for reflection.
We come, open to the teachings of Christ.
Come into this time for prayer.
We come, open to the Spirit’s nudges.
Come into this space for worship.
We come, open to the way of God.
Come and be nourished by the fellowship we share,
and the movement of the Spirit of God in our midst.
We come, open to a future hope today.
We lift up in worship the presence of Christ for us and for others.
Jesus Christ brings light and love to the world.
May we seek justice, resist evil, and affirm
wholeness as we continue on our journey.
Thanks be to God.

Hymn: MV 1 Let Us Build a House

Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live,
a place where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive.
Built of hopes and dreams and visions; rock of faith and vault of grace;
here the love of all shall end divisions:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where prophets speak, and words are strong and true,
where all God’s children dare to seek to dream God’s reign anew.
Here the cross shall stand as witness and as symbol of God’s grace;
here as one we claim the faith of Jesus:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where love is found in water, wine and wheat;
a banquet hall on holy ground, where peace and justice meet.
Here the love of God, through Jesus, is revealed in time and space;
as we share in Christ the feast that frees us:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where hands will reach beyond the wood and stone
to heal and strengthen serve and teach, and live the Word they’ve known.
Here the outcast and the stranger bear the image of God’s face;
let us bring an end to fear and danger:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where all are named, their songs and visions heard
and loved and treasured, taught and claimed as words within the Word.
Built of tears and cries and laughter, prayers of faith and songs of grace;
let this house proclaim from floor to rafter:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Prayer of Approach

O God, our light, our beauty, our rest:
With the appearance of your Son you have brought us into your new creation. Form us into
your people, order our lives in you; though Christ the Living One we pray. Amen.

Glory to God in the highest,
And peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly king, almighty God and Father, we
worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son
of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on
us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are
the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the
Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Hymn: VU 358 When Jesus the Healer

When Jesus the healer passed through Galilee,
Heal us, heal us today!
the deaf came to hear and the blind came to see.
Heal us, Lord Jesus!

A paralyzed man was let down through a roof.
Heal us, heal us today!
His sins were forgiven, his walking the proof.
Heal us, Lord Jesus!

The death of his daughter caused Jairus to weep.
Heal us, heal us today!
The Lord took her hand, and he raised her from sleep.
Heal us, Lord Jesus!

When blind Bartimaeus cried out to the Lord,
Heal us, heal us today!
his faith made him whole and his sight was restored.
Heal us, Lord Jesus!

The lepers were healed and the demons cast out.
Heal us, heal us today!
A bent woman straightened to laugh and to shout.
Heal us, Lord Jesus!

The twelve were commissioned and sent out in twos,
Heal us, heal us today!
to make the sick whole and to spread the good news.
Heal us, Lord Jesus!

There's still so much sickness and suffering today.
Heal us, heal us today!
We gather together for healing and pray:
Heal us, Lord Jesus!

Intercessions & Thanksgiving
In our Shared Ministry Church Cycles of prayer, we pray for…
The church / The authorities
The World / The Local Community
Those in need / The departed and those who grieve

We pray for all those throughout the world
who have gathered in your name,
that they may be blessed and unified.
We pray for all those who hunger for food,
both for the body and the soul,
that they may be filled.
We pray for all those who are oppressed,
depressed, and who live in fear,
that they may be comforted.
We pray for our families, friends,
and neighbours, that they may see
your life of resurrection in us.
For this we pray in the name of
Jesus Christ, our risen Lord. Amen

Prayer of Confession
Response:
Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy.

Words of Assurance

The Peace
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.
(congregation greets one another with a distanced sign of peace)

Hymn: VU 218 We Praise You, O God
We praise you, O God, our Redeemer, Creator;
in grateful devotion our tribute we bring.
We lay it before you; we kneel and adore you;
we bless your holy name, glad praises we sing.

We worship you, God of our mothers and fathers,
through trial and tempest, companion and guide.
When perils o’er take us, you will not forsake us,
But faithful to your promise, you walk by our side.

With voices united our praises we offer
and gladly our songs of thanksgiving we raise.
Our sins now confessing, we pray for your blessing,
to you, our great Redeemer, forever be praise!

VU 542 We Give You but Your Own

Prayer over the Gifts

THE SACRED MEAL IS SHARED

The Lord is here
God’s Spirit is with us.
Lift up your hearts
We lift them up to God
Let us give thanks to the God of all of Creation
It is right to give our thanks and praise

It is indeed right that we should praise you, God of love, our source and our fulfillment, for you
create all things and in you we live and move and have our being. Your wonder is manifest in land
and sea and sky.

And so we gather around your table, with all the saints and with all Creation, we sing the hymn of your unending love:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory,
Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the
highest.

To you be glory, almighty God, This is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you for
the forgiveness of sins; do this to remember me.

Great is the mystery of faith.
Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

Recalling Christ’s death and resurrection, we ask you to accept this, our sacrifice of praise …
Through Christ our Redeemer, in the power of the Spirit, all praise and glory be yours, Creator God,
now and for ever. Amen.

The Lord's Prayer (said traditionally)

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ,
We, being many, are one body, for we all share in the one bread.
The gifts of God for the people of God
Thanks be to God

The Communion

Prayer After Communion
Glory to God,
whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or
imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus,
for ever and ever. Amen.

The Doxology
All your works praise you, O Lord.
And your faithful servants bless you. Gracious God we thank you for feeding us with the
body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ. May we, who share his body, live his risen life;
we, who drink his cup, bring life to others; we, whom the Spirit lights, give light to the
world. Keep us firm in the hope you have set before us, so that we and all your children
shall be free, and the whole earth live to praise your name; through Christ our Lord. Amen

Hymn: VU 242 Let All Things Now Living

Let all things now living
a song of thanksgiving
to God our Creator triumphantly raise;
who fashioned and made us,
protected and stayed us,
by guiding us on to the end of our days.

God's banners are o'er us,
pure light goes before us,
a pillar of fire shining forth in the night;
till shadows have vanished
and darkness is banished,
as forward we travel from light into Light.

By law God enforces,
the stars in their courses
and sun in its orbit obediently shine;
the hills and the mountains,
the rivers and fountains,
the depths of the ocean proclaim God divine.

We, too should be voicing
our love and rejoicing;
with glad adoration a song let us raise:
till all things now living
unite in thanksgiving:
to God in the highest, hosanna and praise.
