Ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you ~Job 12:7

The Community Gathers (life and work of the church)

Call to Worship
The animals of God's creation inhabit the skies, the earth, and the sea.
They share in the fortunes of human existence and have a part in human life.
God, who confers gifts on all living things,
has often used the service of animals
or made them reminders of the gifts of salvation.
Animals were saved from the flood
and afterwards made a part of the covenant with Noah. (GENESIS 9:9–10)

Hymn: VU 217 All Creatures of Our God

All creatures of our God and King,
lift up your voice and with us sing:
hallelujah, hallelujah!
Bright burning sun with golden beam,
soft shining moon with silver gleam,
sing praises, sing praises,
hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah!

O rushing winds and breezes soft,
O clouds that ride the winds aloft,
sing praises, hallelujah!
O rising morn, in praise rejoice;
O lights of evening, find a voice:
sing praises, sing praises,
hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah!

And everyone of tender heart,
forgiving others, take your part:
sing praises, hallelujah!
All who long pain and sorrow bear,
praise God and yield up all your care:
sing praises, hallelujah!
hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah!

Let all things their Creator bless,
and worship God in humbleness:
sing praises, hallelujah!
Praise God eternal, praise the Son,
and praise the Spirit, three in one:
sing praises, hallelujah!
hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah!

One: The Lord is in His holy temple
All: O come let us worship

Jubilate:
Be joyful in the Lord, all you lands;
serve the Lord with gladness and come before his presence with a song. Know this: The Lord himself is God; he himself has made us, and we are his; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise; give thanks to him and call upon his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his faithfulness endures from age to age.

Affirmation of Faith – The Iona Creed

Let us confess the faith of our baptism as we say:
We believe in God above us, maker and sustainer of all life,
Of sun and moon, of water and earth, of male and female.
We believe in God beside us, Jesus Christ, the word made flesh,
Born of a woman, servant of the poor, tortured and nailed to a tree.
A man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief, he died alone and forsaken.
He descended into the earth to the place
of death.
On the third day he rose from the tomb. He ascended into heaven, to be
everywhere present throughout all ages,
His kingdom will come on earth.
We believe in
God within us, the Holy Spirit burning with Pentecostal fire,
Life-giving breath of the
Church,
Spirit of healing and forgiveness, source of all resurrection and of eternal life.

Amen

Offertory Hymn: VU 341 Fairest Lord Jesus

Fairest Lord Jesus, ruler of all nature,
O thou of God to earth come down:
thee will I cherish, thee will I honor,
thou, my soul's glory, joy, and crown.

Fair are the meadows, fairer still the woodlands,
robed in the blooming garb of spring;
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer,
who makes the troubled heart to sing.

Fair is the sunshine, fairer still the moonlight,
and fair the twinkling, starry host;
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer
than all the angels heaven can boast.

All fairest beauty heavenly and earthly,
wondrously, Jesus, is found in thee;
none can be nearer, fairer or dearer
than thou, my Saviour, art to me.

In our Shared Ministry Church Cycles of prayer, we pray for…
The church / The authorities
The World / The Local Community
Those in need / The departed and those who grieve

God created us and placed us on the earth to be stewards of all living things, therefore let us
proclaim the glory of our Creator, saying:
O God, how wonderful are the works of your hands.
Blessed are you, O Lord of the Universe; you create the animals and give us the ability to train them to help us in our work. R
Blessed are you, O Lord of the Universe, you give us food from animals to replenish our energies. R
Blessed are you, O Lord of the Universe; for the sake of our comfort you give us domestic animals as companions. R
Blessed are you, O Lord of the Universe; you care for us even as you care for the birds of the air. R
Blessed are you, O Lord of the Universe; you offered your Son to us as the Passover lamb and in him willed that we should be called your children. R

Hymn: MV 135 Called by Earth and Sky
Called by earth and sky, promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust, treasure of life sanctified, called by earth and sky.

Precious these waters, endless seas, deep ocean’s dream,
waters of healing, rivers of rain, the wash of love again.

Called by earth and sky, promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust, treasure of life sanctified, called by earth and sky.

Precious this gift, the air we breathe; wind born and free.
Breath of the Spirit, blow through this place, our gathering and our grace.

Called by earth and sky, promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust, treasure of life sanctified, called by earth and sky.

Precious these mountains, ancient sands; vast and fragile land.
Seeds of our wakening, rooted and strong, Creation’s faithful song.

Called by earth and sky, promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust, treasure of life sanctified, called by earth and sky.

Precious the fire that lights our way, bright dawning day.
Fire of passion, sorrows undone, our faith and justice one.

Called by earth and sky, promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust, treasure of life sanctified, called by earth and sky, called
by earth and sky.
