Call to Worship
Spirit of love, come upon these people and dwell among us.
Come, Holy Spirit!
Spirit of unity, show us the path towards Christian unity.
Come, Holy Spirit!
Spirit of hospitality, teach us to be welcoming.
Come, Holy Spirit!
Spirit of compassion, instil within us an attitude of respect to all those whom we meet.
Come, Holy Spirit!
Spirit of hope, help us to detach ourselves from all hindrances to our ecumenical journey.
Come, Holy Spirit!

Story Time: Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

“The Hill We Climb” by Amanda Gorman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jp9pyMqnBzk

Prayer of Confession
Forgive us, Lord, for past mistakes, mistrust and misdeeds between Christians from different Churches and traditions.
Lord, have mercy.
Forgive us, Lord, for remaining in the darkness rather than seeking the path of Light; for you, O Lord, are the only true Light.
Lord, have mercy.
Forgive us, Lord, for our lack of faith and for our failure to be people of expectant hope and authentic charity.
Lord, have mercy.
Forgive us, Lord, for having caused pain, hardship and anguish to others.
Lord, have mercy!
Forgive us, Lord, for isolating ourselves and remaining indifferent, instead of showing hospitality to all, especially strangers and refugees.
Lord, have mercy!

Words of Assurance

Hymn: MV 154 Deep In Our Hearts

Deep in our hearts there is a common vision;
Deep in our hearts there is a common song;
Deep in our hearts there is a common story,
telling Creation that we are one.

Deep in our hearts there is a common purpose;
Deep in our hearts there is a common goal;
Deep in our hearts there is a sacred message,
justice and peace in harmony.

Deep in our hearts there is a common longing;
Deep in our hearts there is a common theme;
Deep in our hearts there is a common current,
flowing to freedom like a stream.

Deep in our hearts there is a common vision;
Deep in our hearts there is a common song;
Deep in our hearts there is a common story,
telling Creation that we are one.

The Proclamation of the Word
Hebrew Scripture: Jonah 3:1-5,10

Psalm 62: 5-12 (6-14 BAS)
6 For God alone my soul in silence waits; *
truly, my hope is in him.
7 He alone is my rock and my salvation, *
my stronghold, so that I shall not be shaken.
8 In God is my safety and my honour; *
God is my strong rock and my refuge.
9 Put your trust in him always, O people, *
pour out your hearts before him, for God is our refuge.
10 Those of high degree are but a fleeting breath, *
even those of low estate cannot be trusted.
11 On the scales they are lighter than a breath, *
all of them together.
12 Put no trust in extortion; in robbery take no empty pride; *
though wealth increase, set not your heart upon it.
13 God has spoken once, twice have I heard it, *
that power belongs to God.
14 Steadfast love is yours, O Lord,*
for you repay everyone according to his deeds.

Sermon

Affirmation of Faith
Let us confess the faith of our baptism as we say:
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Offertory Hymn: MV 113 Jesus Saw Them Fishing v 1, 3

Jesus saw them fishing by the shore of Galilee,
casting out their nets into the sea.
Simon Peter, Andrew and the sons of Zebedee,
waiting in their boats so patiently.

And Jesus said,
"Oh, come and follow me.
Oh, leave behind your nets, I call you.
Oh, come and fish with me,
and your life will never be the same again."

"If you want to follow me, deny your very self.
Take up your cross and walk the walk with me.
This might seem a hardship, an impossibility,
but nothing is impossible with God."

And Jesus said,
"Oh, come and follow me.
Oh, leave behind your nets, I call you.
Oh, come and fish with me,
and your life will never be the same again."

We give it gratefully.

The Lord’s Prayer (spoken in our mother tongue)

Hymn: VU 562 Jesus Calls Us

Jesus calls us; o’er the tumult
of our life’s wild restless sea,
day by day his clear voice sounding,
saying, “Christian, follow me.”

Long ago apostles heard it
by the Galilean lake,
turned from home and toil and kindred,
leaving all for Jesus’ sake.

Jesus calls us from the worship
of the vain world’s golden store,
from each idol that would keep us,
saying, “Christian, love me more.”

In our joys and in our sorrows,
days of toil and hours of ease,
still he calls, in cares and pleasures,
“Christian, love me more than these.”

Jesus calls us: by your mercies,
Saviour, may we hear your call,
give our hearts to your obedience,
serve and love you best of all.
