God’s People Gather……

Call to Worship
Come into this place for reflection.
We come, open to the teachings of Christ.
Come into this time for prayer.
We come, open to the Spirit’s nudges.
Come into this space for worship.
We come, open to the way of God.
Come and be nourished by the fellowship we share,
and the movement of the Spirit of God in our midst.
We come, open to a future hope today.
We lift up in worship the presence of Christ for us and for others.
Jesus Christ brings light and love to the world.
May we seek justice, resist evil, and affirm wholeness as we continue on our journey.
Thanks be to God.

Hymn: VU 232 Joyful, Joyful

1. Joyful, joyful, we adore you, God of glory, life and love;
hearts unfold like flowers before you, opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, drive the gloom of doubt away;
giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day.

2. All your works with joy surround you, earth and heaven reflect your rays,
stars and angels sing around you, centre of unbroken praise.
Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, flashing sea,
chanting bird and flowing fountain, sound their praise eternally.

3. You are giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blest,
wellspring of the joy of living, ocean depth of happy rest!
Source of grace and fount of blessing, let your light upon us shine;
teach us how to love each other, lift us to the joy divine.

4. Mortals, join the mighty chorus which the morning stars began;
God's own love is reigning o'er us, joining people hand in hand.
Ever singing, march we onward, victors in the midst of strife;
joyful music lifts us sunward in the triumph song of life.

To Respond in Prayer and Action……

A New Creed

We are not alone, we live in God’s world.
We believe in God: who has created and is creating,
who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh,
to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit.
We trust in God. We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God’s presence, to live with respect in Creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope.
In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God

Prayer of Confession

Generous God, you give us the gift of your Spirit, but we confess that we have not known how to use it. You send us the Spirit of courage, but we have been afraid. You send us the Spirit of truth, but we cling to our illusions. You send us the Spirit of healing, but we cannot let go of our hurts. Holy Spirit of forgiveness, come to us again: shake our hearts, set our souls on fire with your love: send us out into the world rejoicing in your power. Amen

Words of Assurance

Compassionate One, hear our prayer:
stretch out your hand in healing love.
Create in us a clean heart, O God,
and renew your Spirit within us. Amen

The Peace
The peace of Christ be with you all.
And also with you.

The Offering

Hymn: MV 154 Deep in Our Hearts

1. Deep in our hearts there is a common vision;
Deep in our hearts there is a common song;
Deep in our hearts there is a common story,
telling Creation that we are one.

2. Deep in our hearts there is a common purpose;
Deep in our hearts there is a common goal;
Deep in our hearts there is a sacred message,
justice and peace in harmony.

3. Deep in our hearts there is a common longing;
Deep in our hearts there is a common theme;
Deep in our hearts there is a common current,
flowing to freedom like a stream.

4. Deep in our hearts there is a common vision;
Deep in our hearts there is a common song;
Deep in our hearts there is a common story,
telling Creation that we are one.

Hymn: VU 278 In the Quiet Curve of Evening

1. In the quiet curve of evening, in the sinking of the days,
in the silky void of darkness, you are there.
In the lapses of my breathing, in the space between my ways,
in the crater carved by sadness, you are there.
You are there, you are there, you are there.

2. In the rests between the phrases, in the cracks between the stars,
in the gaps between the meaning, you are there.
In the melting down of endings, in the cooling of the sun,
in solstice of the winter, you are there.
You are there, you are there, you are there.

3. In the mystery of my hungers, in the silence of my rooms,
in the cloud of my unknowing, you are there.
In the empty cave of grieving, in the desert of my dreams,
in the tunnel of my sorrow, you are there.
You are there, you are there, you are there.
