As followers of Jesus Christ, our church is a community called to love, honour, worship, and serve God.
We invite others to share our Christian journey as we grow in faith and engage in ministry in our town and mission in our world.

Opening Prayer

Prayer of Confession
Dear friends in Christ, God is steadfast in love and infinite in mercy. Let us confess our sins,
confident in God’s forgiveness.
Jesus, forgive us our sins.
Forgive the sins we can remember and the sins we have forgotten.
Forgive the wrongs we have done and the good we have failed to do.
Forgive the times when we have been weak in the face of temptation, and those when we have been stubborn in the face of correction.
Forgive the times when we have been overly proud, and those when we have failed to boast of your works. Forgive the harsh judgements we have made, and the undue leniency we have shown.
Forgive the lies we have told and the truths we have avoided.
Forgive us the pain we have caused, and the over-indulgence we have practiced.
Jesus have mercy on us, and make us whole.
Amen

Words of Assurance

Story Time: Hockey skit

Hymn: MV#138 “My Love Colours Outside the Lines”

My love colours outside the lines,
exploring paths that few could ever find;
and takes me into places where I’ve never been before,
and opens doors to worlds outside the lines.

My Lord colours outside the lines,
turns wounds to blessings, water into wine;
and takes me into places where I’ve never been before,
and opens doors to worlds outside the lines.

We’ll never walk on water if we’re not prepared to drown,
body and soul need a soaking from time to time.
And we’ll never move the gravestones if we’re not prepared to die,
and realize there are worlds outside the lines.

My soul longs to colour outside the lines,
tear back the curtains, sun, come in and shine;
I want to walk beyond the boundaries where I’ve never been before,
throw open doors to worlds outside the lines.

We’ll never walk on water if we’re not prepared to drown,
body and soul need a soaking from time to time.
And we’ll never move the gravestones if we’re not prepared to die,
and realize there are worlds outside the lines.

My soul longs to colour outside the lines,
tear back the curtains, sun, come in and shine;
I want to walk beyond the boundaries where I’ve never been before,
throw open doors to worlds outside the lines.

The Proclamation of the Word

Isaiah 25:6-9

Psalm 118:14-24 (Voices United p. 837, part 2 and 3)

Refrain: Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

God is my strength and my song; God has become my salvation.
There are shouts of joy and deliverance in the tents of the righteous.

The right hand of God does mighty things; the right hand of God raises up.
The right hand of God does mighty things.

I shall not die, but live; and I shall proclaim what God has done.
God indeed punished me, but did not give me over to death.
R: Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Open to me the gates of the temple, that I may enter and give thanks to God.
This is the gate of God; through it the righteous shall enter.

I thank you for you have answered me; you have become my salvation.
The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.

This is God's doing, marvellous in our eyes.
This is the day that God has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!
R: Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Sermon: “Mary and the Emptied Tomb”

Affirmation of Faith – Let us confess the faith of our baptism as we say:
With the whole church, we affirm that we are made in God’s Image,
Befriended by Christ, empowered by the Spirit.
With people everywhere, we affirm God’s goodness at the heart of humanity,
Planted more deeply than all that is wrong.
With all creation, we celebrate the miracle and wonder of life,
The unfolding purposes of God for ever at work in ourselves and the world.

(From the Iona Abbey Worship Book)

HYMN: VU#166, “Joy Comes with the Dawn”

Joy comes with the dawn;
joy comes with the morning sun;
joy springs from the tomb
and scatters the night with her song,
joy comes with the dawn.

Weeping may come;
weeping may come in the night,
when dark shadows cloud our sight.

Joy comes with the dawn;
joy comes with the morning sun;
joy springs from the tomb
and scatters the night with her song,
joy comes with the dawn.

Sorrow will turn,
sorrow will turn into song,
and God’s laughter make us strong.

Joy comes with the dawn;
joy comes with the morning sun;
joy springs from the tomb
and scatters the night with her song,
joy comes with the dawn.

We will rejoice,
we will rejoice, and give praise,
to the One who brings us grace.

Joy comes with the dawn;
joy comes with the morning sun;
joy springs from the tomb
and scatters the night with her song,
joy comes with the dawn.

Offering Invitation

Offertory Chorus: MV 185 “Ev'ry Day is a Day Of Thanksgiving”

Ev’ry day is a day of thanksgiving.
God, you’ve been so good to me.
Ev’ry day you’re blessing me.
Ev’ry day is a day of thanksgiving.
I will glorify you, O my Lord, today!

You keep blessing me, blessing me, blessing me.
You opened the door that I might see you’re blessing me.
And you keep blessing me, blessing me, blessing me.
I will glorify you O my Lord, today.

Prayer over the Gifts

Intercessions & Thanksgiving: In our Shared Ministry Church Cycles of Prayer we pray for Bishop Anna and the congregation of St. Mary of the Incarnation, Metchosin and the Rev. Wally Eamer. On this joyous Easter day pray for New Life and Resurrection in the Church. ...

We pray for all those throughout the world
who have gathered in your name this Easter morning,
that they may be blessed.

We pray for all those who hunger for food,
both for the body and the soul,
that they may be filled.

We pray for all those who are oppressed,
depressed, and who live in fear,
that they may be comforted.

We pray for our families, friends,
and neighbours, that they may see
your life of resurrection in us.

For this we pray in the name of
Jesus Christ, our risen Lord.
Amen.

Collect

The Lord’s Prayer (spoken in our mother tongue)

English:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Hymn: VU#155 “Jesus Christ is Risen Today”

Jesus Christ is risen today, hallelujah!
our triumphant holy day, hallelujah!
who did once, upon the cross, hallelujah!
suffer to redeem our loss. Hallelujah!

Hymns of praise then let us sing hallelujah!
unto Christ, our heavenly King, hallelujah!
who endured the cross and grave, hallelujah!
sinners to redeem and save. Hallelujah!

But the pains which he endured, hallelujah!
our salvation have procured; hallelujah!
now above the sky he’s King, hallelujah!
where the angels ever sing. Hallelujah!

Sing we to our God above, hallelujah!
praise eternal as God's love; hallelujah!
praise our God, ye heavenly host, hallelujah!
praise the Son and Holy Ghost. Hallelujah!

Words and Music: Lyra Davidica 1708
