Mission Statement
As followers of Jesus Christ, our church is a community called to love, honour, worship,
and serve God.
We invite others to share our Christian journey as we grow in faith and engage in ministry
in our town and mission in our world.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have you believed, Thomas, because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe. John 20.29
Call to Worship
The Ancient Holy Living God, provider of every blessing in abundance, calls us to gather.
May we overflow with prayers of thanksgiving.
May we shout and sing for joy.
Praise belongs to you, O God.
Come let us worship.
Hymn: VU 395 Come In, Come In and Sit Down
Come in, come in and sit down,
you are a part of the family.
We are lost and we are found,
and we are a part of the family.
You know the reason why you came,
yet no reason can explain;
so share in the laughter and cry in the pain,
for we are a part of the family.
God is with us in this place,
like a mother’s warm embrace.
We’re all forgiven by God’s grace,
for we are a part of the family.
Come in, come in and sit down,
you are a part of the family.
We are lost and we are found,
and we are a part of the family.
There’s life to be shared in the bread and the wine;
we are the branches, Christ is the vine.
This is God’s temple, it’s not yours or mine,
but we are a part of the family.
There’s rest for the weary and health for us all;
there’s a yoke that is easy, and a burden that’s small.
So come in and worship and answer the call,
for we are a part of the family.
Come in, come in and sit down,
you are a part of the family.
We are lost and we are found,
and we are a part of the family.
Words and music: James K Manley, 1984
Alleluia! The Lord is risen indeed:
O come, let us worship.
Come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us shout for joy to the rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving
and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.
For the Lord is a great God,
and a great king above all gods.
In his hand are the caverns of the earth,
and the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his for he made it,
and his hands have moulded the dry land.
Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee,
and kneel before the Lord our maker.
For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.
Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!
Alleluia! The Lord is risen indeed:
O come, let us worship.
Prayer of Confession
Gracious God, we gather before you in this time of prayer. ... (followed by a time of silent prayer)
Amen.
The Proclamation of the Word
1 John 1:1-2:2
The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
Psalm 133 BAS p 890
1 Oh, how good and pleasant it is, *
when brethren live together in unity!
2 It is like fine oil upon the head *
that runs down upon the beard,
3 Upon the beard of Aaron, *
and runs down upon the collar of his robe.
4 It is like the dew of Hermon *
that falls upon the hills of Zion.
5 For there the Lord has ordained the blessing: *
life for evermore.
Creator of the universe, from whom all things come, to whom all things return, give your
people such unity of heart and mind, that all the world may grow in the life of your eternal
kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
One: The Holy Gospel of our Lord, Jesus Christ according to John
All: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ
The Gospel: John 20: 19-31
One: The Gospel of Christ
All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ
Sermon
Apostle’s Creed
Let us confess the faith of our baptism, as we say,
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Offertory Hymn: VU 396 Jesus, Stand among Us
Jesus, stand among us in your risen power;
let this time of worship be a hallowed hour.
Breathe the Holy Spirit into every heart;
bid the fears and sorrows from each soul depart.
Lead our hearts to wisdom till our doubting cease,
and to all assembled speak your word of peace.
Words: William Pennefather 1873, (v. 1, 2) Lydia Pedersen 1995 (v. 3) Music: Friedrich Filitz 1847.
Offertory Chorus: VU #542 We Give You But Your Own
We give you but your own,
whate'er the gift may be;
all that we have is yours alone,
we give it gratefully.
Words: William Walsham How; Music: Johann Balthasar König; adpt. William Henry Havergal.
Collect
The Lord’s Prayer (spoken in our mother tongue)
English:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
Hymn: MV 135 Called by Earth and Sky
Called by earth and sky, promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust, treasure of life sanctified, called by earth and sky.
Precious these waters, endless seas, deep ocean’s dream,
waters of healing, rivers of rain, the wash of love again.
Called by earth and sky, promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust, treasure of life sanctified, called by earth and sky.
Precious this gift, the air we breathe; wind born and free.
Breath of the Spirit, blow through this place, our gathering and our grace.
Called by earth and sky, promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust, treasure of life sanctified, called by earth and sky.
Precious these mountains, ancient sands; vast and fragile land.
Seeds of our wakening, rooted and strong, Creation’s faithful song.
Called by earth and sky, promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust, treasure of life sanctified, called by earth and sky.
Precious the fire that lights our way, bright dawning day.
Fire of passion, sorrows undone, our faith and justice one.
Called by earth and sky, promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust, treasure of life sanctified, called by earth and sky, called by earth and sky.
Words and music: Pat Mayberry, 2005.
