Prayer of Approach

Hymn: CP 532 (VU 664) What a Friend we have in Jesus (Kwak’wala & English)

1. Kiyosa la sints ugwila Gliglaglual lak Jesus a

Qala hyints umayil-kula Qikumatla nahwa lak

Himi ga la unts kisitlints Nukuk-ida inukwa

Ka unts kizinaya la unts Qikumatla nahwa lak.

1. What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,

All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

2. Kasu gwana su nahwa lak Si da nahwa yaksuma

Qala zahida nahwa lak Au uma hawakulak

Ka ungwis ugwila laka Unts qikumatla as lak

Higa las ma as Jesus a Wak-ida nahwa gakunts

2. Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged, take it to the Lord in prayer.

Can we find a friend so faithful, who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our every weakness, take it to the Lord in prayer.

3. Ka su kauklil weklimasa Wekl nahwa laka yaksum

Qala yayaik-idalak Au uma hawakulak

Hima as lagitl tsi Jesus Glikads Qaquil-inuk

Kas qaqila mi lak gakunts Laka nahwa yaksuma

3. Are we weak and heavy laden, encumbered with a load of care?

Christ the Saviour is our refuge; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Do our friends despise, forsake us? Are we tempted to despair?

Jesus’ strength will shield our weakness and we’ll find new courage there.

One: The Lord is our refuge and strength:

All: O come let us worship

Venite:

Come, let us sing to the Lord; let us shout for joy to the rock of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God, and a great king above all gods.

In his hand are the caverns of the earth, and the heights of the hills are his also.

The sea is his for he made it, and his hands have moulded the dry land.

Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee, and kneel before the Lord our maker.

For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.

Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!

Affirmation of Faith  (A New Creed)

We are not alone, we live in God’s world.

We believe in God:who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit.

We trust in God.

We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God’s presence, to live with respect in Creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope.

In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us.

We are not alone.

Thanks be to God.

Offertory Hymn:  In the Sweet by and by (Kwak’wala & English)

Kuntsu i dikl du da kukl, La ka ekia awinagwisa.

1. There's a land that is fairer than day, and by faith we can see it afar;

for the Father waits over the way to prepare us a dwelling place there.

Refrain: In the sweet by and by, we shall meet on that beautiful shore.

In the sweet by and by, we shall meet on that beautiful shore.

2. La klints dunkalakl laka Ike La klints dunkalakls khumdum ma si

2. We shall sing on that beautiful shore the melodious songs of the blest;

and our spirits shall sorrow no more, not a sigh for the blessing of rest. [Refrain]

Refrain: Kuntsu i dikl dudakukl, La ka ekia awinagwisa,

Kuntsu i dikl du da kukl, La ka ekia awinagwisa.

Prayer over the Gifts

Intercessions & Thanksgiving

In our Shared Ministry Church Cycles of prayer, we pray for…

(Let us pray to God the Holy Spirit, saying, “Come, Holy Spirit, come.”)

Collect for National Indigenous Day of Prayer: Creator, we give you thanks for all you are and all you bring to us for our visit within your creation. In Jesus, you place the Gospel in the centre of this sacred circle through which all of creation is related. You show us the way to live a generous and compassionate life. Give us your strength to live together with maya’hala (respect) and commitment as we grow in your spirit, for you are God, now and forever. Amen

The Lord’s Prayer (spoken in our mother tongue)

Hymn:  VU 567 Will You Come and Follow Me

1. Will you come and follow me if I but call your name?

Will you go where you don't know and never be the same?

Will you let my love be shown, will you let my name be known,

will you let my life be grown in you and you in me?

2. Will you leave yourself behind if I but call your name?

Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same?

Will you risk the hostile stare should your life attract or scare?

Will you let me answer prayer in you and you in me?

3. Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name?

Will you set the prisoners free and never be the same?

Will you kiss the leper clean, and do such as this unseen,

and admit to what I mean in you and you in me?

4. Will you love the 'you' you hide if I but call your name?

Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same?

Will you use the faith you've found to reshape the world around,

through my sight and touch and sound in you and you in me?

5. Christ, your summons echoes true when you but call my name.

Let me turn and follow you and never be the same.

In your company I’ll go where your love and footsteps show.

Thus I’ll move and live and grow in you and you in me.
