Mission Statement
As followers of Jesus Christ, our church is a community called to love, honour, worship, and serve God.
We invite others to share our Christian journey as we grow in faith and engage in ministry in our town and mission in our world.

Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. (Ephesians 10:18)

Call to Worship

O God, open my lips,
and my mouth shall proclaim your praise.
I pray to you, O God;
you hear my voice in the morning;
at sunrise I offer my prayer
and wait for your answer.

Prayer of Approach

Hymn: VU 220 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, who rules all creation;
O my soul, praise him, at all times your health and salvation.
Come, all who hear, brothers and sisters draw near,
joining in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord, above all things so mightily reigning,
keeping us safe at his side, and so gently sustaining.
Have you not seen, how all you needed has been
met by God's gracious ordaining?

Praise to the Lord, who will prosper our work and defend us;
surely his goodness and mercy shall daily attend us:
ponder anew what the Almighty can do
who out of love will befriend us.

Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore him!
All that has life and breath come now with praises before him!
Let the Amen sound from God's people again:
gladly with praise we adore him.

Words: Joachim Neander, English translation Catherine Winkworth; Music: Stralsund Gesangbuch.

One: God is here
All: O come let us worship

Venite:
Come, let us sing joyfully to God!
Raise a shout to our rock, our deliverance!
Let us come into God’s presence with thanksgiving, and sing our praises with joy.
For the LORD is a great God, the great Ruler, above all gods.
O God, in your hands are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks are yours.
Yours is the sea, for you made it, the dry land as well for your hands formed it.
Come, let us bow down in worship;
Let us kneel before God, our Maker.
For you are our God,
And we are the people you shepherd, the flock under your care.
If only you would hear God’s voice today!

The Proclamation of the Word

Psalm 84 (VU 800)

Refrain: How lovely is your dwelling place, O God of hosts, to me.
How lovely is your dwelling place, God of hosts! My soul longs, even faints for the courts of God;
my heart and my flesh cry for joy to the living God.
Even the sparrow finds a house, and the swallow a nest where she may lay her young,
at your altars, God of hosts, my sovereign, my God.
R: How lovely is your dwelling place, O God of hosts, to me.

Happy are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise.
Happy are those whose strength is in you, who have set their heart on pilgrimage.
Going through the valley of Baca they find a spring from which also to drink;
the early rain also covers it with pools of water.
They go from strength to strength,
to appear before God in Zion.
R: How lovely is your dwelling place, O God of hosts, to me.

O God of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob.
Behold, O God, our shield, look on the face of your anointed.
Truly a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
For you, God, are a sun and shield, you will give grace and honour. No good things will you withhold from those who live the upright life.
O God of hosts, happy are those who put their trust in you.
R: How lovely is your dwelling place, O God of hosts, to me.

Epistle Ephesians 6:10-20

Hymn: MV 135 Called by Earth and Sky

Called by earth and sky, promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust, treasure of life sanctified, called by earth and sky.

Precious these waters, endless seas, deep ocean’s dream,
waters of healing, rivers of rain, the wash of love again.

Called by earth and sky, promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust, treasure of life sanctified, called by earth and sky.

Precious this gift, the air we breathe; wind born and free.
Breath of the Spirit, blow through this place, our gathering and our grace.

Called by earth and sky, promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust, treasure of life sanctified, called by earth and sky.

Precious these mountains, ancient sands; vast and fragile land.
Seeds of our wakening, rooted and strong, Creation’s faithful song.

Called by earth and sky, promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust, treasure of life sanctified, called by earth and sky.

Precious the fire that lights our way, bright dawning day.
Fire of passion, sorrows undone, our faith and justice one.

Called by earth and sky, promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust, treasure of life sanctified, called by earth and sky.

Sermon/Reflection

Affirmation of Faith

Let us confess the faith of our baptism as we say:
We believe in God, who has created all life and continues to create new life within and without us. We believe in Jesus, son of God, son of man, the Saviour of the world. By his life, his death and his resurrection from the grave, we can know the true depth of human possibility and experience the true joy of abundant life. We believe the Holy Spirit is present now and always calling us to faith, giving us gifts, and empowering us for service. We believe the church is the community of faith called to experience the fullness of life through God’s Word made flesh in Jesus Christ. Amen

Offertory Hymn: MV 191 What Can I Do

What can I do? What can I bring?
What can I say? What can I sing?
I’ll sing with joy. I’ll say a prayer
I’ll bring my love, I’ll do my share.

Repeat as directed.

Words and music: Paul Rumbolt and Michelle McCarthy; arr. Alan C. Whitmore.

VU 541 Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost! Amen

Words: Thomas Ken; Music: Genevan Psalter

Prayer over the Gifts

Intercessions & Thanksgiving

In our Shared Ministry Church Cycles of prayer, we pray for Anna, our bishop, and the congregation of St. George the Martyr, Cadboro Bay and the Revs. Jeannine Friesen & Don Walls. We also pray for the Church of St Paul (Barriere), Cloverdale United, (The) Commons: A Dinner Church Plant (Vancouver), Como Lake United, Comox United, and Cranbrook United.

When you seem deaf to our prayers and far from us
Lord, lead us on
When you invade our private worlds and we feel you walking with us
Lord, lead us on
From where we are, to where you need us to be
Lord, lead us on
From the security of what we know to the adventure of what you will reveal
Lord, lead us on
To refashion the fabric of this world to the shape of your kingdom
Lord, lead us on. Amen

Collect

The Lord’s Prayeras Jesus taught

English:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Hymn: VU 333 Love Divine, all Loves Excelling

Love divine, all loves excelling,
joy of heaven to earth come down,
fix in us thy humble dwelling,
all thy faithful mercies crown.
Jesus, thou art all compassion,
pure, unbounded love thou art;
visit us with thy salvation,
enter every trembling heart.

Come, almighty to deliver;
let us all thy grace receive;
suddenly return, and never,
nevermore thy temples leave.
Thee we would be always blessing,
serve thee as thy hosts above,
pray, and praise thee, without ceasing,
glory in thy perfect love.

Finish, then, thy new creation;
pure and spotless let us be;
let us see thy great salvation
perfectly restored in thee,
changed from glory into glory,
till in heaven we take our place,
till we cast our crowns before thee,
lost in wonder, love, and praise.
