THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD

Call to Worship

Creator of lights, light of the world, you bring into being all that is good, all that is true, all that sustains our lives.
Come let us worship.

Your voice is in the storm and in the silence, in the song of the turtle dove, in the pounding of the woodpecker, in the soft sounds of water dripping from the eaves, and in the hearts of those who yearn for justice.
Come let us worship.

We hunger for you perfect love, and thirst for your perfect peace. And so you call us to gather at your table, to feast on your holy Word, to drink the cup of salvation, poured out for the healing of the world. Bless our stumbling words of prayer and praise, and fill us with your spirit of love, as we offer ourselves to you in the name of the living Christ.
Come let us worship. Amen.

Hymn: MV 26 Your Love is Amazing

Your love is amazing,
steady and unchanging,
Your love is a mountain,
firm beneath my feet.
Your love is a mystery,
how you gently lift me.
When I am surrounded
your love carries me.

Hallelujah, hallelujah,
Hallelujah, your love makes me sing.
Hallelujah, hallelujah,
Hallelujah, your love makes me sing.

Your love is surprising,
I can feel it rising,
all the joy that's growing
deep inside of me.
Every time I see you
all your goodness shines through.
I can feel this God song
rising up in me.

Hallelujah, hallelujah,
Hallelujah, your love makes me sing.
Hallelujah, hallelujah,
Hallelujah, your love makes me sing.

Your love is amazing,
steady and unchanging,
Your love is a mountain,
firm beneath my feet.
Your love is a mystery,
how you gently lift me.
When I am surrounded
your love carries me.

Hallelujah, hallelujah,
Hallelujah, your love makes me sing.
Hallelujah, hallelujah,
Hallelujah, your love makes me sing.

Prayer of Approach

Wisdom of God, we awaken, and the day calls to us.
May we find you in our days.
We gather here, and your Spirit calls to us.
May we find you in our midst.
When we worship, we experience the world as you experience it
Where your word and the world lead us today.
Amen.

Sermon

Offertory Hymn: VU 506 Take My Life and Let It Be

Take my life, and let it be
consecrated, all for thee;
take my moments and my days;
let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let them move
at the impulse of thy love;
take my feet, and let them be
swift and purposeful for thee.

Take my lips, and let them be
filled with messages from thee;
take my intellect, and use
every power as thou shalt choose.

Take my will, and make it thine;
it shall be no longer mine;
take my heart, it is thine own;
it shall be thy royal throne.

Take my love; and I will pour
at thy feet its treasure store;
take myself, and I will be
ever, only, all for thee.

Words: Frances Ridley Havergal; Music: unknown

VU 541 Praise God from Whom all Blessings Flow

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost! Amen

Words: Thomas Ken; Music: Genevan Psalter

Prayer over the Gifts

Prayers of the People

God calls us to be a praying people. Let us join in prayer, offering our praise, thanksgivings, and intercessions to God.

Response: God, hear our prayer. And in your love, answer.

God of compassion, into your hands we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy, now and forever. Amen.

Collect

The Lord’s Prayer (sung SFGP #12)

Our Father in Heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in Heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive
those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
now and forever.
Amen.

Hymn: VU 595 We Are Pilgrims

We are pilgrims on a journey,
fellow travellers on the road;
we are here to help each other
walk the mile and bear the load.

Sister, let me be your servant,
let me be as Christ to you;
pray that I may have the grace to
let you be my servant too.

I will hold the Christ-light for you
in the night-time of your fear;
I will hold my hand out to you,
speak the peace you long to hear.

I will weep when you are weeping,
when you laugh I'll laugh with you;
I will share your joy and sorrow,
till we've seen this journey through.

When we sing to God in heaven,
we shall find such harmony,
born of all we've known together
of Christ's love and agony.

Brother, let me be your servant,
let me be as Christ to you;
pray that I may have the grace to
let you be my servant too.

Words and music: Richard Gillard
