THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
And also with you.

Let us pray.
We thank you, O God, that you have again brought us together on this sacred day to praise you for your goodness and to ask your blessing. Give us grace to see your hand in the week that is past, and your purpose in the week to come; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Dear friends in Christ, as we turn our hearts and minds to worship almighty God, let us confess our sins.

Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us,
that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your name. Amen.

Merciful God, grant to your faithful people pardon and peace, that we may be cleansed from all our sins and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Sharing the Peace:

The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.
(We share the peace in physically distant but socially cohesive way.)

Hymn: MV 2 Come, All You People
(repeat as instructed)

Come all you people, come and praise your Maker,
Come all you people, come and praise your Maker,
Come all you people, come and praise your Maker,
Come now and worship the Lord.

Collect:
Loving God,
we come to this place seeking healing, seeking new life, and seeking wholeness.
Help us to throw off the cloaks of our limited imaginations,
that we might find ourselves forever in your presence.
We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen

Story Time

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED

Hutłilala's! Listen deeply as scripture is read and the Word proclaimed.
Amen.

Hebrew Scripture Job 42: 1-6, 10-17

Psalm 34 VU 761

Refrain: Taste and see, taste and see the goodness of our God.
I will bless God at all times, God’s praise will continually be in my mouth.
My soul will glory in God, the humble will hear and be glad.
O magnify God with me, let us exalt God’s name together.
I sought God, who answered me, and freed me from all my fears.
Look to the Most High, and let your light shine, and your faces will not be ashamed.
This poor soul cried out and God heard, and saved me from all my troubles.
R: Taste and see, taste and see the goodness of our God.

Your angel, O God, keeps guard over those who fear you and delivers them.
Taste and see that our God is good. Happy are those who take refuge in God.
Fear God, you who are the saints, for those who fear God lack nothing.
Strong lions suffer want and go hungry, but those who seek God lack no good thing.
R: Taste and see, taste and see the goodness of our God.

But you, God, redeem the life of your servants;
none who take refuge in you are condemned.
R: Taste and see, taste and see the goodness of our God.

Refrain Words, Music: Robert E. Kreutz.

HYMN: MV 12 Come Touch Our Hearts

Come touch our hearts that we may know compassion,
from failing embers build a blazing fire;
love strong enough to overturn injustice,
to seek a life more gracious, come touch and bless our hearts.

Come touch our souls that we may know and love you,
your quiet presence all our fears dispel;
create a space for spirit to grow in us,
let life and beauty fill us, come touch and bless our souls.

Come touch our minds and teach us how to reason,
set free our thoughts to wonder and to dream;
help us to open doors of understanding,
to welcome truth and wisdom, come touch and bless our minds.

Come touch us in the moments we are fragile,
and in our weakness your great strength reveal;
that we may rise to follow and to serve,
steady now our nerve, come touch and bless our wills.

Come touch us now, this people who are gathered,
to break the bread and share the cup of peace;
that we may love you with our heart, our soul,
our mind, our strength, our all, come touch us with your grace.

Words and music: Gordon Light, 2002

Gospel: Mark 10: 46-52

One: Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church
All: Thanks Be to God

Sermon Reflection

Offertory Hymn: VU 593 Jesu, Jesu

Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love,
show us how to serve
the neighbours we have from you.

Kneels at the feet of his friends,
silently washes their feet,
master who acts as a slave to them.

Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love,
show us how to serve
the neighbours we have from you.

Neighbours are rich and poor,
varied in color and race,
neighbours are near and far away.

Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love,
show us how to serve
the neighbours we have from you.

These are the ones we should serve,
these are the ones we should love;
all are neighbours to us and you.

Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love,
show us how to serve
the neighbours we have from you.

Kneel at the feet of our friends,
silently washing their feet,
this is the way we should live with you.

Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love,
show us how to serve
the neighbours we have from you.

Words: Tom Colvin 1969; Music: Ghanaian folk song; adapt. Tom Colvin 1969

Prayer over the Gifts

We hear the call of Jesus to rise;
we hear the call of Jesus to be well.
We hear the call of Jesus to follow;
we hear the call of Jesus to care.
Bless these gifts, O God,
and bless the lives of those who give in your service to the world. Amen.

Prayers of the People

In our Shared Ministry Church Cycles of Prayer we pray for Anna, our bishop and the Congregation of St. Peter, Campbell River & St. Saviour by-the-Sea, Cortes Island and the Rev. Catherine Dafoe Hall.. We also pray for Gladwin Heights / St. Andrew’s United, Golden Ears United, Gordon United, and Grace United (Coombs and Lax Kw’alaams)

For all people in their daily life and work;
For our families, friends, and neighbours, and for all those who are alone.
For this community, our country, and the world; For all who work for justice, freedom, and peace.
For the just and proper use of your creation; For the victims of hunger, fear, injustice, and oppression.
For all who are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble;
For those who minister to the sick, the friendless, and needy.
For the peace and unity of the Church of God;
For all who proclaim the gospel, and all who seek the truth.
Hear us, Lord.
For your mercy is great.

We thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life...
(Silence)

We will exalt you, O God;
And praise your name for ever and ever.

We pray for those who have died in the peace of Christ, and for those whose faith is known to you alone, that they may have a place in your eternal kingdom. Lord, let your loving kindness be upon them;
Who put their trust in you.

Gracious God, you have heard the prayers of your faithful people; you know our needs before we ask, and our ignorance in asking. Grant our requests as may be best for us. This we ask in the name of your Son Jesus the Christ.
Amen

The Lord’s Prayer

English:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Hymn: MV 213 Take Up His Song

Take up his song of peace, and go into the world.
Take up his song of peace in every moment.
In every moment of the journey, we’re laying down our lives;
Lay them down, in peace, lay them down, and take up his song.

Take up his song of hope, and go into the world.
Take up his song of hope in every moment.
In every moment of the journey, we’re laying down our lives;
Lay them down, in hope, lay them down, and take up his song.

Take up his song of faith, and go into the world.
Take up his song of faith in every moment.
In every moment of the journey, we’re laying down our lives;
Lay them down, in faith, lay them down, and take up his song.

Take up his song of love, and go into the world.
Take up his song of love in every moment.
In every moment of the journey, we’re laying down our lives;
Lay them down, in love, lay them down, and take up his song.

Words and music: Laura A Herman; arr. Robin King.

The Blessing and Dismissal

God, lead us, that we may stand firm. Teach us love, teach us compassion. Above all, out of love and compassion teach us to act. In the name of God: Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer.
Amen.

Glory to God,
whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen.

May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Thanks be to God. Gilakas’la

Three-fold Amen
