Mission Statement
As followers of Jesus Christ, our church is a community called to love, honour, worship, and serve God.

Call to Worship
The grace of Jesus the Christ and the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
People: And also with you.

Let us pray. ... Amen.

Hymn: VU 315 Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee;
holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee,
casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee,
though the eye made blind by sin thy glory may not see,
only thou art holy; there is none beside thee,
perfect in power, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea;
holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

Words: Reginald Heber; Music: John Bacchus Dykes.

One: God is here
All: O come let us worship

Venite

Come, let us sing joyfully to God!
Raise a shout to our rock, our deliverance!
Let us come into God’s presence with thanksgiving,
and sing our praises with joy.
For the LORD is a great God,
the great Ruler, above all gods.
O God, in your hands are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks are yours.
Yours is the sea, for you made it,
the dry land as well for your hands formed it.
Come, let us bow down in worship;
Let us kneel before God, our Maker.
For you are our God,
And we are the people you shepherd,
the flock under your care.
If only you would hear God’s voice today!

The Proclamation of the Word

Wisdom 3:1-9

Psalm: 24 VU 751

Refrain: Lift up your heads, that God who rules in glory enter may.
The earth is God’s, and all that is in it;
For God founded it upon the seas, planted it firm over the waters beneath.
R: Lift up your heads, that God who rules in glory enter may.

Who may ascend the mountain of God? Who may stand in Gods holy place?
Those who have clean hands and a pure heart, who have not set their minds on deceit, nor made false promises;
they shall receive God’s blessing, righteous ness from the God who will save them.
Such are those who seek God, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
R: Lift up your heads, that God who rules in glory enter may.

Lift up your heads, you gates!
Lift yourselves up, you everlasting doors, that the One who rules in glory may enter.
Who rules in glory?
It is God, valiant and strong, God, who is mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates!
Lift yourselves up, you everlasting doors, that the One who rules in glory may enter.
Who rules in glory?
It is God of Hosts, God who rules in glory.
R: Lift up your heads, that God who rules in glory enter may.

Refrain words: Andrew Mitchell Thomson, Arrangement: F.R.C. Clarke.

Hymn: MV 79 Spirit, Open My Heart

Spirit, open my heart
to the joy and pain of living.
As you love may I love,
in receiving and in giving,
Spirit, open my heart.

God, replace my stony heart
with a heart that’s kind and tender.
All my coldness and fear
to your grace I now surrender.

Spirit, open my heart
to the joy and pain of living.
As you love may I love,
in receiving and in giving,
Spirit, open my heart.

Write your love upon my heart
as my law, my goal, my story.
In each thought, word, and deed,
may my living bring you glory.

Spirit, open my heart
to the joy and pain of living.
As you love may I love,
in receiving and in giving,
Spirit, open my heart.

May I weep with those who weep,
share the joy of sister, brother.
In the welcome of Christ,
may we welcome one another.

Spirit, open my heart
to the joy and pain of living.
As you love may I love,
in receiving and in giving,
Spirit, open my heart.

Sermon/ Reflection

Offertory Hymn: MV173 Put Peace into Each Other’s Hands

Put peace into each other’s hands
and like a treasure hold it,
protect it like a candle flame,
with tenderness enfold it.

Put peace into each other’s hands
with loving expectation;
be gentle in your words and ways,
in touch with God’s creation.

Put peace into each other’s hands
like bread we break for sharing;
look people warmly in the eye;
our life is meant for caring.

Give thanks for strong – yet tender – hands,
held out in trust and blessing.
Where words fall short, let hands speak out,
the heights of love expressing.

Reach out in friendship, stay with faith
in touch with those around you.
Put peace into each other’s hands;
the Peace that sought and found you.

Words: Fred Kaan; Music: Ron Klusmeier.

Collect

The Lord’s Prayer (spoken in our mother tongue)

English:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Hymn: VU 679 Let There Be Light

Let there be light,
let there be understanding,
let all the nations gather,
let them be face to face;

open our lips,
open our minds to ponder,
open the way to concord
opening into grace;

perish the sword,
perish the angry judgement,
perish the bombs and hunger,
perish the fight for gain;

hallow our love,
hallow the deaths of martyrs,
hallow their holy freedom,
hallowed be your name;

your kingdom come,
your spirit turn to language,
your people speak together,
your spirit never fade;

let there be light,
open our hearts to wonder,
perish the way of terror,
hallow the world God made.
