Mission Statement
As followers of Jesus Christ, our church is a community called to love, honour, worship, and serve God. We invite others to share our Christian journey as we grow in faith and engage in ministry in our town and mission in our world.

A Service of the Word

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
And also with you.

Let us pray. We thank you, O God...

Dear friends in Christ, as we turn our hearts and minds to worship almighty God, let us confess our sins.

Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved ourselves; we have not loved our neighbours. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus the Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.

Merciful God, grant to your faithful people pardon and peace, that we may be cleansed from all our sins and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus the Christ, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Peace:
from Sanctuary to Satellite to Soul-
The Peace of Christ be with you!
And also with you.

Hymn: Common Praise 385 Worship the Lord in the Beauty of Holiness

Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness;
bow down before him, his glory proclaim;
gold of obedience and incense of lowliness
bring, and adore him: the Lord is his name.

Low at his feet lay thy burden of carefulness,
high on his heart he will bear it for thee,
comfort thy sorrows, and answer thy prayerfulness,
guiding thy steps as may best for thee be.

Fear not to enter his courts in the slenderness
of the poor wealth thou canst reckon as thine;
truth in its beauty, and love in its tenderness,
these are the offerings to lay on his shrine.

These, though we bring them in trembling and fearfulness,
he will accept for the name that is dear;
mornings of joy give for evenings of tearfulness,
trust for our trembling, and hope for our fear.

Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness;
bow down before him, his glory proclaim;
gold of obedience and incense of lowliness
bring, and adore him; the Lord is his name!

Text: John Samuel Bewley Monsell; Music: Melody Choral-buch vor Johann Heinrich Rheinhart, Üttingen; harm. The English Hymnal.

Collect

The Proclamation of the Word

Hebrew Scripture: Isaiah 43: 1-7

Psalm 29 Afferte Domino

Ascribe to the Lord, you gods, *
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.

Ascribe to the Lord the glory due the divine name;*
worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of glory thunders; *
the Lord is upon the mighty waters.

The voice of the Lord is a powerful voice; *
the voice of the Lord is a voice of splendour.

The voice of the Lord breaks the cedar trees; *
the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon,

and makes Lebanon skip like a calf, *
and Mount Hermon like a young wild ox.

The voice of the Lord *
splits the flames of fire;

the voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; *
the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

The voice of the Lord makes the oak trees writhe *
and strips the forests bare.

And in the temple of the Lord *
all are crying, “Glory!”

The Lord sits enthroned above the flood;*
the Lord sits enthroned as sovereign for evermore.

The Lord shall give strength to this people;*
the Lord shall give this people the blessing of peace.

Glory to God, Source of all being, eternal Word and Holy Spirt: *
as it was in the beginning, is now and will be for ever. Amen.

Acts of the Apostles: Acts 8: 14-17

Hymn: More Voices # 161 I Have Called You by Your Name

I have called you by your name, you are mine;
I have gifted you and ask you now to shine.
I will not abandon you; all my promises are true.
You are gifted, called and chosen; you are mine.

I will help you learn my name as you go;
read it written in my people, help them grow.
Pour the water in my name, speak the word your soul can claim,
offer Jesus’ body given long ago.

I know you will need my touch as you go;
feel it pulsing in creation’s ebb and flow.
Like the woman reaching out, choosing faith in spite of doubt,
hold the hem of Jesus’ robe, then let it go.

I have given you a name, it is mine;
I have given you my Spirit as a sign.
With my wonder in your soul, make my wounded children whole;
go and tell my precious people they are mine.

Words and music: Daniel Charles Damon.

Gospel:
May God be with you.
And also with you.
The Holy Gospel of Jesus the Christ according to Luke.
Glory to you Jesus the Christ!

Praise to you, Jesus the Christ!

Sermon/ Reflection

Intercessions and Thanksgivings

In our Shared Ministry Church Cycles of prayer, we pray for ...
We pray for all in authority, ...
We pray that their decisions will benefit the common good, especially to support the marginalized members of our society.

Minute for Mission

In peace we pray to you, Lord God.
Silence

For all people in their daily life and work;
For our families, friends, and neighbours,
and for all those who are alone.

For this community, our country, and the world;
For all who work for justice, freedom, and peace.

For the just and proper use of your creation;
For the victims of hunger, fear, injustice, and oppression.

For all who are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble;
For those who minister to the sick, the friendless, and needy.

For the peace and unity of the Church of God;
For all who proclaim the gospel, and all who seek the truth.

For our own needs and those of others.
Silence. (The people may add their own petitions.)

Hear us, Lord.
For your mercy is great.

We thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life.
Silence. (The people may add their own thanksgivings.)

We will exalt you, O God;
And praise your name for ever and ever.

We pray for those who have died in the peace of Christ, and for those whose faith is known to you alone, that they may have a place in your eternal kingdom.
Silence. (The people may add their own petitions.)

Lord, let your loving kindness be upon them;
Who put their trust in you.

Gracious God, you have heard the prayers of your faithful people;
you know our needs before we ask, and our ignorance in asking.
Grant our requests as may be best for us.
This we ask in the name of your Son Jesus the Christ. Amen.

Offertory Hymn: More Voices 146 The Kingdom of God

The kingdom of God is justice and peace
and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Come Lord and open in us
the gates of your kingdom.

Words and music: Taizé Community

Offertory Response: VU 541

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!
Amen

Prayer over the Gifts

Lord's Prayer
And now, as our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,

Our Father,
who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

Closing Hymn: VU 567 Will You Come and Follow Me

Will you come and follow me if I but call your name?
Will you go where you don't know and never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown,
will you let my name be known,
will you let my life be grown
in you and you in me?

Will you leave yourself behind if I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare
should your life attract or scare?
Will you let me answer prayer
in you and you in me?

Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name?
Will you set the prisoners free and never be the same?
Will you kiss the leper clean,
and do such as this unseen,
and admit to what I mean
in you and you in me?

Will you love the 'you' you hide if I but call your name?
Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same?
Will you use the faith you've found
to reshape the world around,
through my sight and touch and sound
in you and you in me?

Christ, your summons echoes true when you but call my name.
Let me turn and follow you and never be the same.
In your company I’ll go
where your love and footsteps show.
Thus I’ll move and live and grow
in you and you in me.

Words: John Bell, The Iona Community, 1987; Music: Scottish traditional; arr. The Iona Community, 1987.

Doxology

Glory to God,
whose power, working in us,
can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine.
Glory to God from generation to generation,
in the Church and in Christ Jesus,
for ever and ever. Amen.

May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen. Gilakas’la.
