THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD
In this time and in this place, we gather on the ancestral lands of the Kwakwaka’wakw peoples.
From many places and many peoples we come to this house in prayer.
In this time and in this space, we are not alone For we meet in the presence of the living God.
We meet in the presence of the living God.
In this time and in this place, we are not alone For the Risen Jesus stands in our midst.
The Risen Jesus stands in our midst.
In this time and in this space, we are not alone For the wind of the Spirit moves in and through us.
The wind of the Spirit moves in and through us.
In this time and in this place we gather with the whole company of heaven: here heaven and earth are one.
In this time and in this space heaven and earth are one.
In this time and in this space as the nights lengthen and the days are dim:
we light this candle to remind us that our Light comes.
In this time and in this place as we wait for Jesus, who is Hope for the world,
we light this candle to remind us that our Hope comes.
In this time and in this space, we gather together, one people in Jesus Christ.
In this time and place, we are one people in Jesus Christ.
In the name of God: Creator, Saviour and Holy Spirit. Amen.
*Advent Hymn: VU 7 Hope Is a Star (verse 1: Hope)
Hope is a star that shines in the night,
leading us on till the morning is bright.
When God is a child there's joy in our song.
The last shall be first and the weak shall be strong,
and none shall be afraid.
Collect prayer
Jesse Tree
Opening Hymn: VU 2 Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus
Come, thou long-expected Jesus
born to set thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee.
Israel's strength and consolation,
hope of all the earth thou art,
dear desire of every nation,
joy of every longing heart.
Born thy people to deliver,
born a child and yet a king,
born to reign in us forever,
now thy gracious kingdom bring.
By thine own eternal Spirit
rule in all our hearts alone;
by thine all-sufficient merit
raise us to thy glorious throne.
THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutłilala's! Listen deeply as Scripture is read.
Hebrew Scripture: Isaiah 64: 1-9
Psalm 80 VU 794 (Part One)
Refrain: Your face, God, shine on us and give us peace.
Shepherd of Israel, hear us,
you who lead Joseph like a flock, you who are enthroned amidst the cherubim.
Shine forth before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh;
stir up your might, come and save us.
R: Your face, God, shine on us and give us peace.
God of hosts, how long will you be angry with your people’s prayer?
You have fed us with the bread of weeping, and given us tears in plenty to drink.
You have made a mockery of us to our neighbours,
and our enemies laugh us to scorn.
Let your hand rest on the one at your right hand, on the one you have made strong for yourself.
Then we will never forsake you; give us life, and we will call on your name.
R: Your face, God, shine on us and give us peace.
Epistle 1 Corinthians: 1: 3-9
*Hymn: MV 16 Confitemini Domino (4x)
Con-fi-te-mi-ni Do-mi-no quo ni am bo-nus.
Con-fi-te-mi-ni Do-mi-no al-le-lu-ia!
Come and fill our hearts with your peace. You alone O Lord are holy.
Come and fill our hearts with your peace, alleluia!

Sermon Reflection
Prayers of the People
Minute for Mission/ PWRDF
Prayer response:
God of Love, hear our prayer.
*The Lord’s Prayer
Gathering our prayers and praises into one, let us pray as our Saviour taught us:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.
The Peace
The God who holds heaven and earth as one sent to us the Prince of Peace: peace in the Church, peace among nations, peace in our homes and peace in our hearts. The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.
*Hymn: MV 146 The Kingdom of God (4x)
The kingdom of God is justice and peace
and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Come Lord and open in us
the gates of your kingdom.
Words and music: Taizé Community
*Response: VU 540 Grant Us, God, the Grace
Grant us, God, the grace of giving,
with a spirit large and free,
that ourselves and all our living
we may offer faithfully.
Prayer over the Gifts
*Hymn: VU 697 O for a World
O for a world where everyone
respects each other's ways,
where love is lived and all is done
with justice and with praise.
O for a world where goods are shared
and misery relieved,
where truth is spoken, children spared,
equality achieved.
We welcome one world family
and struggle with each choice
that opens us to unity
and gives our vision voice.
The poor are rich, the weak are strong,
the foolish ones are wise.
Tell all who mourn: outcasts belong,
who perishes will rise.
O for a world preparing for
God's glorious reign of peace,
where time and tears will be no more,
and all but love will cease.
Words: Miriam Therese Winter, Music: Carl Gotthelf Gläser.
