Call to Worship
Where there is fear and disillusion,
Jesus says, “Peace be with you.”
Where there is doubt and despair,
Jesus says, “Peace be with you.”
Where there is uncertainty and unbelief,
Jesus says, “Peace be with you.”
Into our homes, into our faith communities, into our troubled world come the inspiration and spirit of Jesus.
And his intent is clear.  “Peace be with you.”  Amen.

Prayer of the Day

Hymn: MV 1 Let Us Build a House

Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live,
a place where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive.
Built of hopes and dreams and visions; rock of faith and vault of grace;
here the love of all shall end divisions:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where prophets speak, and words are strong and true,
where all God’s children dare to seek to dream God’s reign anew.
Here the cross shall stand as witness and as symbol of God’s grace;
here as one we claim the faith of Jesus:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where love is found in water, wine and wheat;
a banquet hall on holy ground, where peace and justice meet.
Here the love of God, through Jesus, is revealed in time and space;
as we share in Christ the feast that frees us:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where hands will reach beyond the wood and stone
to heal and strengthen serve and teach, and live the Word they’ve known.
Here the outcast and the stranger bear the image of God’s face;
let us bring an end to fear and danger:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where all are named, their songs and visions heard
and loved and treasured, taught and claimed as words within the Word.
Built of tears and cries and laughter, prayers of faith and songs of grace;
let this house proclaim from floor to rafter:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Scripture: Acts 3: 12-19

Psalm 91 (sung) VU 808 On Eagle's Wings

You who dwell in the shelter of our God,
who abide in this shadow for life,
say to the Lord: "My refuge,
my rock in whom I trust!"

“And I will raise you up on eagle's wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of my hand.”

The snare of the fowler will never capture you,
and famine will bring you no fear;
under God’s wings your refuge,
God’s faithfulness your shield.

“And I will raise you up on eagle's wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of my hand.”

You need not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day;
though thousands fall about you,
near you it shall not come.

“And I will raise you up on eagle's wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of my hand.”

For to God’s angels is given a command
to guard you in all of your ways;
upon their hands they will bear you up,
lest you dash your foot against a stone.

“And I will raise you up on eagle's wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of my hand.”
And hold you, hold you in the palm of my hand.

Prayers of the People

The Lord's Prayer (sung) VU 959

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever.  Amen.

The Peace
The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.

Hymn: VU 288 Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Great is thy faithfulness, God our Creator,
there is no shadow of turning with thee;
thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not;
as thou has been thou forever wilt be.
Great is thy faithfulness!
Great is thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
all I have needed thy hand hath provided –
great is thy faithfulness, ever to me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
sun, moon, and stars in their courses above
join with all nature in manifold witness
to thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Great is thy faithfulness!
Great is thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
all I have needed thy hand hath provided –
great is thy faithfulness, ever to me!

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide,
strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow –
wondrous the portion thy blessings provide.
Great is thy faithfulness!
Great is thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
all I have needed thy hand hath provided –
great is thy faithfulness, ever to me!

Response: VU 541 Praise God

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!
Amen

Prayer over the Gifts

Your gifts will go to work in unexpected ways.
We will sing new songs and hear fresh meanings in their words. We will dig deeply to unearth our talents and then try new things.  We will explore different teachings and be open to their relevance for today.  We will open the lifeblood of our compassion and offer confidence to the downtrodden and respect to the despised.
Your gifts have a crucial task.
We give thankfully.  God be praised!   Amen.

Hymn: VU 651 Guide Me Oh Thou Great Jehovah

Guide me, O thou great Jehovah,
pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak, but thou art mighty,
hold me with thy powerful hand.
Bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
feed me till I want no more,
feed me till I want no more.

Open now the crystal fountain,
whence the healing stream doth flow;
let the fire and cloudy pillar
lead me all my journey through.
Strong deliverer, strong deliverer,
be thou still my strength and shield,
be thou still my strength and shield.

When I tread the verge of Jordan,
bid my anxious fears subside;
death of death and hell's destruction,
land me safe on Canaan's side:
Songs of praises, songs of praises
I will ever give to thee
I will ever give to thee.

Commissioning
In the presence of the risen Christ, you will be joyfully surprised.
Disillusion will become hope, fear will end and there will be reassurance, uncertainty will be replaced by confidence, loneliness will shrivel up in the face of friendship, integrity will overcome injustice, sorrow will fall away as patient support takes its place,
and you will know and welcome the risen Christ.
Thanks be to God.  Amen!  Gilakas’la!  Alleluia!

Three-fold Amen
