Mission Statement
As followers of Jesus the Christ, our church is a community called to love, honour, worship, and serve God. We invite others to share our Christian journey as we grow in faith and engage in ministry in our town and mission in our world.

Call to Worship
Moses said to God, “I am slow of speech and slow of tongue...”
but God sent him anyway.
Jeremiah said, “I am just a boy…”
but God spoke through him anyway.
Mary was perplexed by the angel’s visit,
but God still invited her to give birth to Jesus.
God invites us to understand that we have gifts and we are needed: whether old or young; tired or energetic; quick or slow. Whoever we are, however we are,
we hear your call, O God. We have come!

Opening Prayer

Hymn: VU 401 Worship the Lord v 1, 2, 3, 5

Worship the Lord (worship the Lord)
worship the Father, the Spirit, the Son,
raising our hands (raising our hands)
in devotion to God who is one!

Raising our hands as a sign of rejoicing,
and with our lips our togetherness voicing,
giving ourselves to a life of creativeness,
worship and work must be one!

Worship the Lord (worship the Lord)
worship the Father, the Spirit, the Son,
raising our hands (raising our hands)
in devotion to God who is one!

Praying and training that we be a blessing,
and by our workmanship daily confessing:
we are committed to serving humanity,
worship and work must be one!

Worship the Lord (worship the Lord)
worship the Father, the Spirit, the Son,
raising our hands (raising our hands)
in devotion to God who is one!

Called to be partners with God in creation,
honouring Christ as the Lord of the nation,
we must be ready for risk and for sacrifice,
worship and work must be one!

Worship the Lord (worship the Lord)
worship the Father, the Spirit, the Son,
raising our hands (raising our hands)
in devotion to God who is one!

Now in response to the life you are giving,
help us, O Father, to offer our living,
seeking a just and a healing society,
worship and work must be one!

Worship the Lord (worship the Lord)
worship the Father, the Spirit, the Son,
raising our hands (raising our hands)
in devotion to God who is one!

Hebrew Scripture 2 Kings 5: 1-14

Psalm 30 VU 757

Refrain: Though tears flow for a night, the morning brings new joy.
I will extol you, O God, for you have lifted me up;
You have not let my enemies triumph over me.
O God, my God, I cried to you for help, and you restored my health.
You brought me back from the dead; you saved my life as I was going down to the Grave.
Let all your servants sing praises to you, and give thanks to your holy name.
Your anger is but for a moment, but your kindness is life eternal.
Refrain: Though tears flow for a night, the morning brings new joy.

In my prosperity I said,
“I shall never be shaken; your favour O God, has made me as firm as any strong mountain.”
You turned your face away from me, and I was greatly dismayed. I called to you; I made my appeal:
“What profit is there in my death, in my going down to the Grave?
Will the dust give you praise? Will it proclaim your faithfulness?
Hear, O God, and be gracious to me; O God, be my helper.”
Refrain: Though tears flow for a night, the morning brings new joy.

You turned my mourning into dancing;
You stripped off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
so that my heart will sing your praise without ceasing.
O God, my God, I will give thanks to you forever.
Refrain: Though tears flow for a night, the morning brings new joy.

Epistle: Galatians 6: 1-16

Hymn: VU 509 I, the Lord of Sea and Sky

I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard my people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin
my hand will save.
I, who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear my light to them?
Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne my people’s pain,
I have wept for love of them;
they turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak my words to them.
Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will tend the poor and lame,
I will set a feast for them;
my hand will save.
Finest bread I will provide
till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them.
Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.

Sermon / Reflection

Prayer of Confession
So often we have need,
but we don’t want to admit it:
we stand proud, unbending, unwilling to acknowledge we need something we cannot create ourselves. We try to make do with substitutes for your truth and your grace, but they fail us. Holy One, help us to seek your path, your words, your leading, your peace. Forgive us for those paths we have followed when we trusted in the world’s wisdom rather than yours. Help us to name our need for you. Amen.

Words of Assurance
God’s love never leaves us. We are loved, understood, forgiven, enabled to begin again. For God’s great grace toward us,
let us praise our God!

Prayers of the People
Minute for Mission

In our Common Worship Together

At the bidding: Gracious God, hear our prayer.
Please respond: and in your love, answer.

For each intercession, please add aloud or in the silence of your hearts your response to each petition. …

Peace
May the peace and love of Christ be with you always!
And also with you!

Offertory Hymn: VU 227 For the Fruit of All Creation

For the fruit of all creation,
thanks be to God.
For the gifts to every nation,
thanks be to God.
For the ploughing, sowing, reaping,
silent growth while we are sleeping,
future needs in earth's safekeeping,
thanks be to God.

In the just reward of labour,
God's will is done.
In the help we give our neighbour,
God's will is done.
In our worldwide task of caring
for the hungry and despairing,
in the harvests we are sharing,
God's will is done.

For the harvests of the Spirit,
thanks be to God.
For the good we all inherit,
thanks be to God.
For the wonders that astound us,
for the truths that still confound us,
most of all that love has found us,
thanks be to God.

Words: Fred Pratt Green; Music: Welsh folk melody.

Response: VU 581 When We Are Living verse 2

Through all our living, we our fruits must give.
Good works of service are for offering.
When we are giving, or when receiving,
we belong to God; we belong to God.

English translations v. 2 George Lockwood. Music: harmony Carlton R. Young

Prayer over the Gifts

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Hymn: VU 510 We Have this Ministry

We have this ministry
and we are not discouraged;
it is by God’s own power
that we may live and serve.
Openly we share God’s word,
speaking truth as we believe,
praying that the shadowed world
may healing light receive.
We have this ministry,
O God receive our living.

O Christ, the tree of life,
our end and our beginning,
we grow to fullest flower
when rooted in your love.
Brothers, sisters, clergy, lay,
called to service by your grace,
different cultures, different gifts,
the young and old a place.
We have this ministry,
O God, receive our giving.

The yoke of Christ is ours,
the whole world is our parish;
we daily take the cross,
the burden and the joy.
Bearing hurts of those we serve,
wounded, bruised and bowed with pain,
Holy Spirit, bread and wine,
we die and rise again.
We have this ministry,
O God, receive our loving.

Words and music: Jim Strathdee.

Blessing
Whether big or small, old or young, may you know yourself blessed and loved by God. May that love bubble in you, bubble out of you, and brighten the lives of all you meet.
Thanks be to God! Gilakas’la! Alleluia! Amen!

Threefold Amen
