THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
And also with you.
God rules over all the earth:
O come, let us worship.

*Hymn:
VU 315 Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee;
holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee,
casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee,
though the eye made blind by sin thy glory may not see,
only thou art holy; there is none beside thee,
perfect in power, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea;
holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

Collect

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutłilala's! Listen deeply as scripture is read, the Word proclaimed.
Hebrew Scripture: Jonah 3: 1-5, 10

Psalm 62 VU 779
Refrain: Rest in God alone, rest in God alone, my soul, my soul.
How long will all of you set upon me and batter me, as though I were a tottering wall or a leaning fence?
Their purpose is to thrust me down from eminence; they delight in lies; they bless with their lips but curse me in their hearts.
Yet be still, my soul, and wait for God
from whom comes my hope of deliverance.
Yet be still, my soul, and wait for God
from whom comes my hope of deliverance.
R: Rest in God alone, rest in God alone, my soul, my soul.

In God is my deliverance and my honour, the rock of my strength and my place of refuge.
Put your trust in God always, you people; pour out your hearts before the One who is our refuge.
R: Rest in God alone, rest in God alone, my soul, my soul.

For we mortals are only a puff of wind; the great among us are but illusion;
placed in the balance, we weigh less than a breath.
Put no trust in extortion, set no vain hopes on plunder;
if riches increase, do not set your heart upon them.
Once God has spoken, and twice have I heard it said: “Power belongs to you O God. Steadfast love is yours.”
You reward us all according to our deeds.
R: Rest in God alone, rest in God alone, my soul, my soul.

Epistle: 1 Corinthians 7: 29-31

*Hymn:
VU 563 Jesus, You Have Come to the Lakeshore

Jesus, you have come to the lakeshore
looking neither for wealthy nor wise ones;
you only asked me to follow humbly.
O Jesus, with your eyes you have searched me,
And while smiling, have spoken my name;
now my boat’s left on the shoreline behind me;
by your side I will seek other seas.

You know so well my possessions;
my boat carries no gold and no weapons;
you will find there my nets and labour.
O Jesus, with your eyes you have searched me,
And while smiling, have spoken my name;
now my boat’s left on the shoreline behind me;
by your side I will seek other seas.

You need my hands, full of caring
through my labours to give others rest,
and constant love that keeps on loving.
O Jesus, with your eyes you have searched me,
And while smiling, have spoken my name;
now my boat’s left on the shoreline behind me;
by your side I will seek other seas.

You, who have fished other oceans,
ever longed for by souls who are waiting,
my loving friend, as thus you call me.
O Jesus, with your eyes you have searched me,
And while smiling, have spoken my name;
now my boat’s left on the shoreline behind me;
by your side I will seek other seas.

Sermon Reflection

Prayers of the People:
Minute for Mission/ PWRDF

In peace let us pray to God, saying:
God, have mercy.

*Offertory Hymn:
VU 242 Let All Things Now Living

Let all things now living
a song of thanksgiving
to God our Creator triumphantly raise;
who fashioned and made us,
protected and stayed us,
by guiding us on to the end of our days.
God's banners are o'er us,
pure light goes before us,
a pillar of fire shining forth in the night;
till shadows have vanished
and darkness is banished,
as forward we travel from light into Light.

By law God enforces,
the stars in their courses
and sun in its orbit obediently shine;
the hills and the mountains,
the rivers and fountains,
the depths of the ocean proclaim God divine.
We, too should be voicing
our love and rejoicing;
with glad adoration a song let us raise:
till all things now living
unite in thanksgiving:
to God in the highest, hosanna and praise.

Words and descant: Katherine K. Davis

*Offering Response:
VU 542 We Give You But Your Own

We give you but your own,
what e’er the gift may be;
all that we have is yours alone,
We give it gratefully.

*Prayer over the Gifts

*The Lord’s Prayer
And now, as our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,
Our Father, who art in heaven, hollowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Sharing the Peace
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.

*Hymn: VU 678 For the Healing of the Nations

For the healing of the nations,
God we pray with one accord;
For a just and equal sharing
of the things that earth affords.
To a life of love in action,
help us rise and pledge our word.

Lead us forward into freedom,
from despair your world release;
That, redeemed from war and hatred,
all may come and go in peace.
Show us how through care and goodness,
fear will die and hope increase.

All that kills abundant living,
let it from the earth be banned:
Pride of status, race or schooling,
dogmas that obscure your plan.
In our common quest for justice,
may we hallow life`s brief span.

You, Creator God, have written
your great name on humankind;
for our growing in your likeness
bring the life of Christ to mind;
that, by our response and service,
earth its destiny may find.

Words: Fred Kaan

*The Blessing and Dismissal
Christ Jesus, you said to your apostles...
...Now and forever. Amen.
Glory to God,
whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen.
Go in peace to love and serve God.
Thanks be to God. Amen. Gilakas’la!

*Three-fold Amen
