Call to Worship (adapted from Genesis 11 and Acts 2)

Leader: Come!  Let us be the bricks and mortar for the Great Builder’s city.

People: Let us build the Kingdom, not for ourselves, but for all people!

Come! Let us be the wind that blows the announcement of the Good News.

Let us move to gather the people together in praise!

Come! Let us be the flame that signals the Spirit’s presence in this place.

Let us ignite rejoicing among the old and the young, our sons and our daughters!

Look!  Even as we remain distinct, we are made one in Christ!

Come!  Let us worship God!

Hymn: VU 315 Holy, Holy, Holy, (English & Kwak’wala)

1. Holy, holy, holy! Lord God almighty!

Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee;

holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,

God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

1. Holy, holy, holy; yūkl Ike Gikumi,

Kāgustaula-nāhwa kias klinuh zilwak klinūkl.

Holy, holy, holy wiwākbus Tloqimas,

Num um God, yūklaˉks yūdūqaˉtla-ik.

2. Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee,

casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;

cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,

which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

3. Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee,

though the eye made blind by sin thy glory may not see,

only thou art holy; there is none beside thee,

perfect in power, in love, and purity.

4. Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!

All thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea;

holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,

God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

Venite: (recited responsively)

Come, let us sing to the Lord; * let us shout for joy to the rock of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving * and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God, * and a great king above all gods.

In his hand are the caverns of the earth, * and the heights of the hills are his also.

The sea is his for he made it, * and his hands have molded the dry land.

Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee, * and kneel before the Lord our maker.

For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. * Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!

Sermon: “Coming into Focus”

Affirmation of Faith Let us confess the faith of our baptism as we say:

We believe in God, who has created all life and continues to create new life within and without us. We believe in Jesus, son of God, son of man, the Saviour of the world. By his life, his death and his resurrection from the grave, we can know the true depth of human possibility and experience the true joy of abundant life. We believe the Holy Spirit is present now and always calling us to faith, giving us gifts, and empowering us for service. We believe the church is the community of faith called to experience the fullness of life through God’s Word made flesh in Jesus Christ. Amen

Offertory Hymn:  MV 144 Like a Healing Stream

1. Like a healing stream in a barren desert,

Spirit water bringing life to dusty earth,

God is trickling through our lives as in a dream unfolding,

promising revival and rebirth… like a healing stream.

2. Like a gentle rain on a thirsty garden,

Spirit water come to nourish tiny seed,

God is bubbling through the soil to coax a new creation,

yearning for an end to want and need… like a gentle rain.

3.Like a river strong with a restless current,

Spirit water rushing on to distant shore,

God is carving out a channel in a new direction,

calling for an end to hate and war… like a river strong.

4.Like a mighty sea reaching far horizons,

Spirit water with a love both deep and wide,

God is working in our hearts to shape a new tomorrow:

God will always challenge and provide!

Like a mighty sea, like a river strong, like a gentle rain, like a healing stream.

The Lord’s Prayer

Hymn:  VU 625 I Feel the Winds of God Today

1. I feel the winds of God today; today my sail I lift,

though heavy, oft with drenching spray and torn with many a rift;

if hope but light the water’s crest, and Christ my bark will use,

I’ll seek the seas at his behest, and brave another cruise.

2. It is the wind of God that dries my vain regretful tears,

until with braver thoughts shall rise the purer, brighter years;

if cast on shores of selfish ease or pleasure I should be,

O let me feel your freshening breeze, and I’ll put back to sea.

3. If ever I forget your love and how that love was shown,

lift high the blood red flag above; it bears your name alone.

Great pilot of my onward way, you will not let me drift.

I feel the winds of God today; today my sail I lift.
